Gill is trying to deflect attention from how badly the suns are going

the fact the afl media just swallow up his bs show they are a propaganda arm for the afl
How much AFL media are you actually consuming?

Most coverage I have seen (living in Melbourne) has pointed out how absurd that claim was, and as you said - identified it as deflecting the failure the Suns has and continues to be.

The majority of Melbourne-based media and fans continuously call out the AFL's expenditure to support it's expansion teams on a long-term and ongoing basis.

Anything the AFL says with regard to gws and gc can be taken with a pinch if salt.
I was skipping channels while waiting for the NRL to start and saw their 13k crowd at the gc in a 24k stadium.
The top tier which holds about 75% of the capacity was sparsely populated and the bottom tier was about 50% in places, no way in hell there was more than a 5 figure crowd there.
But they have been lying about gws and gc crowds for so long because no one calls them out on it.

And i also have doubts about lions crowds after seeing the broncos sellout at the gabba being announced as 30K, but who knows with that stadium. Official capacity is still listed as 42k but most seem to say it is 37k now after some works on the wings and video screens.

Gil has got development officers camped outside SE QLD primary schools throwing Sherrrin's at them Dodgeball styles as they try and leave school.

If a Sherrin goes within 5m of a kid then add them straight onto their participation rates ... actually count each limb while your at it.

As I said, never in doubt NSW will just outbid the rest
Given PVL and NRL's current MO I highly doubt that the NRL would have given the other states genuine opportunities to make counter offers. It seems pretty obvious that they are using the threat of selling the GF hosting rights to other states as leverage to screw extra money out of NSW, when really they have no intention of taking the GF away from Sydney if they can avoid it.

Sooner or later NSW will wise up and call their bluff, then things might get interesting again, but I doubt it. My money would be on the NRL caving and giving NSW the rights at a reduced rate without even really consulting any of the other states or considering the possibilities of selling the rights to the highest bidder on a yearly basis.

Yeh Im surprised the new govt didn’t call their bluff. I can’t see nrl ever having the vision/balls to go to open market with it And realise it’s true value.
if we get penrith and $200mill spent on Newcastle and win then that’s a good outcome and no problem with it staying in Sydney, despite the qlnd govt doing just as much for rl stadia for much less return lol

What are the odds of that considering that the NSW gov has backflipped on, what, 3 or 4, similar deals in the last decade at this point? They take the NRL for granted, and the NRL will struggle in negotiations with them for so long as that's the case.

Penrith is a waste of money anyway, and I can't imagine that the business case for Newcastle would be much better either. Stadium Australia is the one that needs some serious money spent on it, but there's no chance of that happening any time in the foreseeable future.

It'd be particularly hypocritical of Labour to invest that kind of money into stadia given their rhetoric when they were in opposition as well. . . But that's just how politics rolls I guess.

They can give 800mil as promised by the previous government to fix stadium infrastructure to keep the GF and cop the political backlash that comes with it or just pay 20mil to keep it in NSW, letting V’landys think he’s a genius negotiator while keeping voters on side and looking good themselves in the process. I think this pantomime will be played out quite regularly

And what sort of money is the most ever ?
10 mill ?
12 ?

I know it was 8 mill for 2022

The NRL should just build a parramatta stadium at Liverpool ( for the Tigers & Bulldogs mainly )
take out a loan , start building it now , put the GF money as a payment into it each year with a % of their considerable profits each year
they'd have it paid off in 2040 , have a 500 mill asset , & the NSW Govt paid about half

If they drop $300M+ on a stadium in Penrith, that's almost on par with Hobart as a bad investment.
Except our stadium will cost closer to 1 billion, we have two stadiums already in peak condition and we’ve spend tens of millions on upgrades for the last decade.
