This should be welcome news for Sharks fans. The fact the NRL is investing in the Shire bodes well for the long-term stability and permanence of their club (i.e. not being relocated to Perth). We can have a Perth team without sacrificing one of the Sydney clubs. The NRL has never been more popular, so now is the time to expand.

All those retail shops in shopping centres did so well during lockdowns didn't they
A high profile Sydney developer bought burwood shopping centre for 95 million. He’s owned it for 20 years collecting 5 million pa net rent

he got 800 units plus 10k commercial and retail which will make him a profit of 800 to 1 billion dollars

he recently bought campsie shopping centre for 98 million and it’s zoned 20 stories

there’s commercial sites in parra for 50 to 100 stories

that’s what I was thinking of

what the arlc bought has little development upside as the land size isn’t large

someone else I know bought a derelict shopping centre in Campbelltown and for a similar number of units and retail

when your spending 20 million plus you can get investments with good yields but significant development potential

the whole Penrith cbd is undeveloped and has loads of stuff for sale

rather than buying from a developer and helping them make a profit as has happened here

One can only think it has something to do with plans for shark park, or it is a long term and very good deal with Quest. The main positive is the NRl is committed to building a $300mill investment portfolio, we've heard it before but hopefully this time it happens.

Obviously thinks hotels offer good long term value which could be true with covid affecting the sector

they should go for a billion of the players and clubs allow it

Has to be a balance, no point building assets whilst cutting funding to key areas like grassroots and expansion and having the game crumble.

Only grassroots that are cut are the ones that dont feed into the nrl, i.e the clubs that generally aren't pokie dens... conclusion WA really needs pokie dens

Comes out of ongoing profits
In a business like nrl there is no such thing as profit, it’s a surplus that wasnt spent on something else. For example last year the nrl made a surplus but they also slashed $20mill out of grassroots funding.

You might want to talk to the clubs struggling in regional nsw and qlnd about that. The arlc‘s mandate is to grow the GAME not just the nrl.

It’s a business that doesn’t need to waste money like other sports do

The game is NRL.... the clubs struggling in regional nsw and qld that are not linked to an affiliate or actual nrl club, is not therefore under there wing so to speak.. why are they then needing to fund them
