Is it the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast those tweets have conflicting information?

And do some people think it's the same place?

I think its a very astute acquisition with a lot of potential up side. Factor in the olympics, indoor sports facility and very likely upgrade of SC stadium into all seater 20K+ stadium just around the corner.

Just playing devils advocate, does the NRL see the potential of a future SC Falcons NRL club in the long long run. Im talking past 2030's just off the top of my head...
- SC population projected to grow <660,000/- by 2050, potentially making it the 8th largest city in Australia.
- Unique footprint, Dolphins may beg to differ but I think its very culturally different to North/Redcliffe Brisbane. Won't have any impact on Broncos or Titans.
- Affluent beautiful area easy to attract players/families.

Coming back to NRL assets they still have $235M more to spend before RLPA/players start to share in profits. Does not mean they have to stop at 300M. However I still want the NRL to have a "home of RL", AFL has marvel, RFU Twick, WRU Mill stadium etc.. Feel the best bet is to do a deal with NSW Govt and fund a redeveloped (2nd plan before it got cancelled) rectangular olympic stadium with it becoming the home of RL.

A pipedream, but if the NRL was to own/invest in a stadium. I would like it to be similar to the Dunedin Stadium, built at Wentworth Park would fill a gap in the type of stadiums available in Sydney. Close enough to the City that the NRL could move its offices there. And by being indoor could focus on music for additional use rather than other sports.

It's a pretty big stretch to suggest that the NRL was broke three years ago. Yeah the lock downs f**ked everything up and made things difficult, and the lack of assets made things harder for the NRL than they needed to be, but suggesting that the NRL was "broke" or a serious chance of folding is extremely hyperbolic.

BTW, the assets they're targeting are interesting. It comes across as being very opportunistic rather than planned, not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that. Not much care seems to be being given to investing in assets that could directly benefit the game on a day to day basis either.

If pvl hadn’t ignored all the politicians and got the game restarted they would’ve been broke as would rival codes who rode off his coat tails

Its not and investment strategy, as long as there isnt another pandemic!
They are buying the properties and leasing back to the hotel companies to run them. Be interesting to know what the lease revenue is and whose responsible for maintenance costs.

No sport in the world went broke. That was just a load of spin. He did well getting it up and running though I'll give him that.

Your fumbler mates were laughing at him saying they would start early

then copied him

and financial impact on sports has been massive eg English rugby union where the game is bankrupt

Not the gambaro they manage it themselves

the others were bought with the managers in place as a purely passive investment

Nope:

The deal, exclusively arranged by HTL Property's Brisbane and Sydney offices, sees the highly regarded Gambaro family provide on-going operation of the property and businesses on an exclusive basis with the ARLC.

"We are delighted with the sale of our hotel after operating on Caxton St for over 60 years, and as a family we are equally as excited about the prospect of working with the ARLC in order to continue and grow the operation" advised Vendor John Gambaro.
