Epic for the small group of Bears fans left and those who can’t see past their nostalgia-tinted glasses. No one else will care, certainly not the youth or the newer population of the North Shore. The whole saga has royally f**ked RL on the North Shore and bringing the Bears back in any form will do precious little to heal the damage. The time to act was 20 years ago.

I’ve explained this multiple times, the NRL and NSWRL royally botched Norths being booted from the comp as they didn’t give them the Newtown treatment. They left them with their district intact instead of carving it up and giving it to neighbouring teams and refused to make a definitive call on their future. As a result, they’ve given Norths false hope after false hope and allowed them to exist in this weird zombie form, ambulance chasing after struggling teams and putting their hand up for re-entry time and time again, only to be repeatedly denied.

Pretend Manly doesn’t exist if it helps you understand the problem. The Roosters or any other club have the same problem if they wanted to officially expand into the North Shore. The situation is a mess there and has been for 20 years.

If Souffs were kept out then Cronulla could have rebranded as South Sydney Sharks and based themselves out of SFS. Dragons could have relocated permanently to Wollongong as Illawarra Dragons. The game would be in a much better position.

Be honest Dolphins are in because News ltd wanted them as they are the least threat to their Broncos cash cow, and Bears may get in because the game is still incredibly myopic. Dumb.... cronulla will never rebrand as an existing entity, south sydney would be exactly where the bears are now, sharks know they are they shire and sutherland area, if anything they are growing a larger footprint in southern sydney, the more dragons have been embracing the wollongong area
I hope they do go with Bears in NZ, Id rather wait for Perth to have its own team one day that has a long term future than take now some NSW club playing games in Perth looking for ways to one day return home.
