PVL has done some good things. I just used to cringe when he (the man in charge and face of the NRL) would sit in press conferences and take pot shots and make jokes about the AFL. Completely unprofessional.

Honestly the best thing he's probably achieved is that the news ltd press hasn't dragged the game through the mud as much as usual in the past 3 years, but now we know why LOL. He's been made to look very amateurish now though....but as an old saying goes - people get the leaders or government they deserve.

Am I the only one who thinks AFL should get a lot more money than NRL? They kick our arse in every facet. They are dominant and deserve it.
There’s an argument they should be a bit ahead given their metro footprint, extra game slot and more ad space. BUT we have origin, higher audiences and international rights value which should be a balance to their advantages.
There is certainly no way in hell they should be $200mill a year ahead! last deal they were only $30mill Ahead and addition of the dolphins plus the other things we gave tv this deal should have closed the gap, not turned it into a chasm.

But league has the issue that it is full of deros. Nobody who watches league has any money to spend. They live in housing commission. RL is proud of its welfare class.

Hmm interesting argument although maybe not phrased very eloquently. There is that perception and that perception may also be damaging

That false perception doesn’t help. Though kfc, maccas and betting Companies seem to like our alleged market lol

Melbourne cannot support two professional rugby league clubs. The Storm model is successful because they represent all of Melbourne and give the fans of Melbourne's eight AwFuL clubs a team that they can all support in a sport that doesn't have split rivalries in Victoria. If you were to introduce a second club it would kill this dynamic. There isn't a Craig Bellamy 2.0 to turn Melbourne 2 into a powerhouse over the next 20 years. Melbourne 2 would be the NRL version of Melbourne Heart/City.

We do need a club in every metro market. We desperately need to get rid of financial strugglers like the Sharks. Relocate them to Adelaide and Perth or piss them off and bring in the Pirates. I've read over Cronulla's annual reports. They're a small club that struggles to make money in a small landlocked market that cannot grow. The fact the NRL chose this club over the Reds, Rams and Chargers has come back to hurt our game badly, and will continue to do so until some one will brains and balls takes over the ARLC and kicks the bludgers out.

They only chose them because they switched to SL back in 1997 like Canterbury and Penrith. So they looked after them.

It isn't a false perception. RL does not have any aspirations in localities or institutions where the wealthier classes are at. Any interest people with wealth have in RL is purely on those individuals rather than the code making them feel welcome.

except this is a bunch of stereotypes and not true.
This sort of image was driven by the media since after the SL war to drive the value of the game down. They banged on about it for years creating this image of the game. Remember that DH patrick smith saying RL had a culture to despise.
Yet AFL was here to save the universe.
incidents in league would be all connected together in a report and blown out of proportion eg coffs harbour incident.

I tried to explain earlier on minutes, Breaks etc alone why it should be the case. Some people just don't want to hear it

Exactly. The sport of AFL is set up for TV breaks.
It is a well-known saying that the minute after a goal in AFL is the most valuable in sport coverage.
NRL has the freedom to make changes to increase its TV value if it wants (eg play in quarters, make the couple minutes after tries less boring etc) but they choose not to.

If NRL was smart it would realise fans don't go to the ground in big numbers but they will watch on TV so lets set the sport up to exploit that better.

If the sport is growing anyway then not sure those changes are needed. Those who have all the figures will make those changes
