I was playing golf with a former rugby administrator, and he said that the best thing NRL did was get V'Landys. Went as far to say that if Rugby Australia has him, it would be seriously challenging RL for preferred winter code in Qld and NSW but obviously is dying.

Interesting observation. Also went on to say that his high school kids (all historically RU nurseries) have a keen interest in NRL and not much interest in rugby these days.

Your mate needs to stop smoking cones before Golf.

Facts are union would never have someone of V`Landys type run their game anyway, note the sneering attitude of the establishment`s Racing Victoria towards him and the "horrible little man" gibe from Vic Racings CEO (towards which V`Landys replied "Hey, I`m not that small, I`m average, joke he may, but trust me he won`t forget things like that).
Anyway, union have had their supposed headkicking versions of V`Landys anyway, McLennan was the last, but they`ve all just been shown to be incompetent and that`s the difference.
McLennan was just all piss and wind. V’Landys can at least back up his bluster with achievements.

Robinson is on NRL pathway committee. I doubt he and Nick aren't on the same page.

No chance a draft is even on the table

.

Until all junior players compete in competitions that have nothing to do with nrl clubs how can there possibly be a draft?

.
Thats why it will never happen. NRL would basically have to take control of all elite Jnr development away from the clubs. Not a chance in hell. Besides what problem is it trying to fix? Does the system not work as it is?

Only feasible way I could see it working is if NRl gives clubs extra grant to pay directly for all Hm, SG and Flegg age group costs. Then at say 20 players enter a new national U22's comp not linked to clubs that the NRL manages and NRL clubs draft from that. Maybe clubs get draft priorities if players have been in their jnr age group systems.
But seems like a lot of expense to the NRL for not much gain.

Sounds like its being considered by the committee, not proposed.

The proposal for a draft and an under-21s competition is currently under consideration by the NRL Pathways Steering Committee (PSC).

This committee includes key figures such as Queensland Rugby League head Ben Ikin, Penrith's football chief Matt Cameron, Melbourne Storm's general manager Frank Ponissi, and Roosters coach Trent Robinson, all tasked with evaluating how to strengthen development programs across the league.

Yeah I’m not convinced the NRL needs a draft. Seems like they’re coming up with a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist.

Look at the weakest team in the NRL, the Wests Tigers. They’ve got Galvin and Bula on the books, two great young players, and they’re bringing in Panthers premiership winners to put around them. They will turn it around without any need of a draft.

If the NRL wants to f*ck over entitlement clubs like the Roosters, which I am all for, scrap third party payment rorts.

To be fair uncle Nick is against it and it’s something that would help his club

Not really, they scout for the best talents, and buy them in, they don't want to be schlepped with the low end of a draft picks, coz they always seem to do well..
Plus a draft would lead to clubs spooning for the best talents on the next draft... that doesn't seem like a competition I want to watch
