Yep sharks losing money badly for decades partly due to owning shark park doesn't smack of good investment opportunity.
Be interesting what the NRL has bought from a club though. Usually no smoke without fire from the Mole.
A long term leasehold on the land the hotel the NRL have purchased at Shark Park makes the most sense for NRL and Sharks.
Cant see them wanting to offload the golf club and cant see NRL wanting to own shark park or the LC. That's the only assets they have.
May make sense re financial strife though, they bought a property in the town to set up a presence and shop but have ended up leasing it out, maybe to generate some extra cash flow? Though they made a $1mill surplus in 2023 they spent $9.5mill on assets so may have created a cash flow problem? Though again they have a decent chunk in the bank(around $19mill in cash reserves and investments)

Though owning your own ground has its advantages (especially if its decent) it can also seriously impact revenue generation if its not very fit for purpose and you dont have the funds to upgrade it.
Sharks for example in 2023 would have had some of the lowest game day related revenue in the comp:
Merch $1.9mill
Game day tickets $2.2mill
Memberships $2.2mill
Sponsorships and corporate game sales $6.5mill

all of those revenue areas are significantly impacted by playing at a small stadium with ltd corporate facilities.

Though how anyone can be having cash problems with the grants over $20mill lord only knows (if it is them, could just as easily be St's given they way they are run but again aside from the LC do St's have any assets?).
Yer the 19 million is for the leagues club fit out. So virtually the Sharks arnt real flushed with cash.

The NRL won't buy a ground to play games at. Besides finding the money to buy it up front, you then have the cost of upkeep, maintenance and evenbtualk refurbishments. Shark Park has been a financial drain on the Sharks for decades.
It wouldn't make sense, especially a tinpot stadium like Shark Park.

It would be hilarious to buy it, then sell it off and force the Sharks to play in a modern stadium elsewhere, though!

On that same boat. IF the Sharks are struggling than wouldn't they move to Allianz?

I think people are reading too much into the Mole. Who has a lower strike rate than BM or Rhyno

When they spent around 30 million buying the hotel next doors whose value is tied to home games at shark park

Yeh genius !

No way the value of that hotel is tied to a dozen or so match days a year. thats just ridiculous. Matchdays would be a benefit, but not the main revenue driver by any stretch of the imagination.

“The location of Shark Park makes a lot of sense for the NRL as a buyer, but they bought it in the face of stiff competition,” Mr Simpson said.”

Guess where the beetson hotel in Caxton st is close too ?

You know those travelling teams from interstate will stay at these hotels

“He reiterated his commitment to the Sharks and other Sydney clubs, insisting the commission was committed to prosecuting funding for the club with the state government.

Head office now stands to directly benefit from any improvements to the facility given they own the hotel next to the ground as part of a regeneration of the area which is close to completion.“

There is no way an investment in hotels in Sydney would be tied to 9k coming to Shark Park.
Anyone thinking the nrl would buy the ground to move the sharks away and devalue their asset next doors has rocks in their head

And group capacity will go back to 18k

The Beetson and Woolaware facilities are not comparable in these terms.

Guess what Stadium is home to the Broncos, Dolphins, Reds, and Roar as well as the staging point for Origin and any international fixtures and concerts. Thats almost 50 event days a year. Its one of the highest use venues in the country. The Stadium is almost certainly a primary souce of its revenue over the year.

matches at Endeavor arent even close in number or capacity. Like I said, the matches will be a useful contribution - especially in winter - but you still have 350 odd days of the year to run outside NRL matches.

I don't think they will, learn to read you illiterate fool.

I said it would be great LOLs.

There's no way the NRL are buying a tiny poorly appointed stadium like Shark Park.

Who knows how many interstate teams they host their each week

Saves on the nrl hiring out hotel rooms when they can use empty rooms for free

Hotels are being bought near rugby league grounds for a reason

It’s why the arl wont let the sharks move or the ground be sold

So you think the NRL will be letting teams staff for free if there are spare rooms?

Look at the fixture dude. Its not that many,

Thats not how this works. The NRL own the property, and collect rent from the lease held by Quest, which has the lease and owns/manages the business. My landlord cant rock up and use rooms for free in my hotel just because they exist.

Quest Hotels will lease and manage the hotel which offers 40 apartments (71 keys) as well as conference facilities, a business lounge and a gym.

In the case of the Gambaro Hotel, my understanding is that the Gambaro are operating the business in behalf of the NRL.

The deal, exclusively arranged by HTL Property's Brisbane and Sydney offices, sees the highly regarded Gambaro family provide on-going operation of the property and businesses on an exclusive basis with the ARLC.

In this case, tot for the one you think. Its literally to collect ongoing returns from the property lease.

Thats not really got anything to do with the Woolaware facility and everything to do with you not understanding the arrangement the NRL have with Quest.

You don’t know what conditions were attached to any purchase

Obviously patronage at the hotel is affected by the ground being there and it will fall if the ground was sold

There’s literally rooms that overlook the ground and you can see people staying in there during the telecast

And when I say interstate I’m talking about involving all Sydney teams except the ones that are too far from there (Brookie, camp, parra and Penrith)

It was already leased prior to the NRL purchasing ithe property. So Id put the house on it being the case..

Its max 71 rooms - This isnt a big Hotel. NRL Patronage wont affect this as much as you believe. And Ive said repeatedly, its still going to be a contributer, just not a major one over the course of a financial year

I don’t know what all the fuss is about this hotel. There are only 3 decent hotels in Cronulla and this is easily the best. It’s perfectly located on top of the ground and right next to the Bay Central Woolaware shopping centre. It’ll make a fortune due to its location next to the ground and just the fact it’s a quality hotel in an area crying out for 4-5 star accommodation. It’s a bloody good investment. The night I stayed there it was clearly full. Cost me $380 for the night.
