So out of the whole country there’s only two? Righto.
Yep let’s pss away $800mill+ for a game every 3 years that could draw 20k more fans at the existing stadium. You should go into politics :)
They should have thought about that when they spent all that money on Optus. They should have made it multipurpose rather than just for AFL.
So too bad.
We just cannot be playing big games there or on that soccer field the government will not upgrade. Sports fans should not have to sit in a corner to get a decent view.

How many Australian cities have a 40k rectangular stadium? Two lol

no ones building a 40k stadium at $800mill+ to host origin every three years, and locking out 20k fans in the process.
That's kind of his point. Soccer, Union and RL need to get serious about getting bigger rectangular grounds around the country and do whatever it takes to get them. Whether it be only playing major events in rectangular grounds or getting NRL teams into Perth and Adelaide

How many games a year would that be needed for ?

Never going to happen.

As awful as afl stadiums are the nrl makes a lot of money hosting one off events there

Aami stadium is prefect for the storm now

Ideally Perth would have something similar built but they can’t even agree to spend 200 million finishing off the existing ground

The stadium in Adelaide isn’t too bad

Meant more it’s Asian and Indian migrants and the latter love cricket

Hardly see many at league games

That working class thing doesn’t really apply anymore it’s just some people who go to private school think they are elite for supporting union

If Liverpool stadium gets up Campbelltown just becomes a satellite city for rugby league.
Ahhh the benefits of diversity.......DON'T SHOOT ME DOWN.

Honestly, after the shit the AFL get away with Brisbane's biggest stadium that is not used anywhere near as much as Suncorp. f**king Accor up in Sydney then abandoning it, getting funding for Blacktown then abandoning it, I don't care. We need to be more aggressive. The rectangular sports provide the overwhelming majority of big tourism driving events in sport.

True but I’d rather we got Accor and Suncorp done up than wasting money on fumbler states

Imagine an 80 to 100k lang park

There’s an opportunity for the nrl to greatly increase its fan base in Sydney by targeting those groups more actively
You have a better chance then in the UK as you get next zero in area's like Leeds, Bradford, Halifax etc and it really pisses me off.
Saying that the support by Lebanese community is great and you also you got the luxury of people from P.I.'s as well.

Yep I want it all we don't have to choose, we can lobby all state governments and the Federal Govt.

100k national stadium at Accor
75k Suncorp
50k stadium in Melbourne
Min 30k stadiums in Adelaide and Perth

All rectangular, no compromises

Pvl dropped the ball on Brisbane stadium upgrades as did others

Most crucial are Canberra brookvale (sell out all the time) gong / Newcastle and then a brand new Suncorp at a much larger capacity

With the population boom coming to Brisbane why more go for 100k even if it’s not at lang park

Pvl is focussed on sorting out expansion then the tv deal but still lots to do outside of that

See this is a myth that V'Landys dropped the ball, the Qld Labor government were going to make Lang Park, a rectangular stadium, Brisbane's olympic stadium FFS!

Immediate focus needs to be on Homebush and Canberra, then as a condition of Brisbane #3 that Lang Park goes to 70k.

70k will just look bad for regular Bronco's/Dolphins games...it become Brisbane's Accor ?

There should be five. Maybe not now, but certainly in the future:

Suncorp- 70k (or go to another site for 70k)
Accor- 80k (rectangular)
Allianz- 40k (done)
Newcastle- 40k (deserve it)
Melbourne- 50k (population growth)

And Optus could've been a multipurpose facility similar to the Stade de France.

the centres of excellence have 200-250 staff?? No way.
Just did a google search and I might have been a little high.

I know people here working at clubs (staff not including players - Storm 151, Hawthorn 250, Collingwood 288) and assumed that NRL clubs would be the similar. Some are, some are not:
Sharks 128
Panthers 213
West 136
Manly 137
Souths 166
Rooster 129
Parra 174

I am not sure if those numbers include all staff, but they are the LinkedIn figures excluding players.

Still, including players that is an average of 200 when you include players. Good for business.

No multi-purpose stadiums anywhere again. Ever. Auckland might get away with it because they don’t have AFL and because their design considers that Rugby draws bigger crowds than cricket, but in every Australian city besides Brisbane the oval sport users draw bigger than rectangular sports, so the oval sports will always be prioritised here.

Yeah, AFL did that deliberately out at Olympic stadium and they a proud as piss of themselves for it.
The NRL needs to be malicious with AFL and totally screw with their dream of having a 60k Brisbane oval stadium via the olympics.
