GWS will move to Canberra eventually

It’s not working at Homebush but the act govt loves afl and will do whatever for that team
So running the white flag up in its battle for the hearts and minds of the people of Western Sydney.
That will be a huge snub to the few who pay to watch GWS.

There’s no battle

GWS will be lucky to have 2k paying fans in Sydney

Homebush was always kinda of swans territory anyway

They should never have moved from Blacktown to become a watered down version of the swans

Western Sydney is migrant it’s literally spot the white lol

A bunch of white guys from Melbourne living on the water in breakfast point has zero relevance in western Sydney

I was joking. No way the AFL moves where GWS are based. They are in that for the long haul. Long may they drain the AFL's finances, same with the Suns. and probably Tassie now they are going to join.

They will use VIC teams that are struggling like Demons and Kangaroos to play those Darwin/Cairns type venues to try and get a foot in other markets.

I've stopped caring what AFL does anymore, cause as time goes on, NRL seems to be winning this war year by year with only further growth to come, while AFL seems tapped out on that front.
Can you or somebody else correct if I'm wrong, but didn't vicky kicky house give both GWS and the GC team coast around $35 milion each just to tread water last season?

Yeah all AFL clubs voted to underwrite them hard when they came in for the next 20-30yrs hoping that long term it pays off. It won't and is taking money away from other areas they could have been building it.

While the NRL has gone through struggle street, and understands where money needs to be spent, and is now in attack mode building off it's way cheaper base for running a team and it is only underwriting the Bears for a few years until they are ready to be offloaded to the highest bidder. PNG is the wildcard in 10yrs time when it's decided if the Aus govt will continue to underwrite them. That said, by that time, I think all the non-PNG players will be based in Cairns to live and train as they struggle even with tax free dollars, to attract the sorts of players they need to complement the guys that have, and the corruption that will probably happen that is commonplace in a place like PNG. PNG is a big noose for the NRL and probably not a risk I would have taken when places like Ipswich and NZ2 exist that are pretty much risk free.

IF PNG goes belly up in 10 years time I think the NRL will just move the franchise to Cairns, which will give the NRL 30 Queensland derbies on a home and away basis, and that means even more column inches in Queensland and media coverage.

Maybe, but they have a lot of fans to cannibalise.
And a government willing to deal.
What do you think it is that makes AFL fans/areas more hyped for their teams than fans/areas of Rugby League teams? I don't think it can be denied that they are.

If PNG fell over, it would just make it easier for the NRL to introduce NZ2 or a team in Ipswich. Won’t be Cairns.

Stupid mole thinks reach and ratings are the same thing

Game got around 840k which is decent but on par with women’s origin
AFL Origin will fizzle out again because there is little appetite for it in Victoria. Even when it was at its peak in the 70s and 80s, all the interest was from the underdogs in WA and SA. They will do it again next year, but reckon that will be it, as they will lengthen the season when Tassie come in 2028. Like NFL, no other country plays so the is no real need for representative football. It is a novelty, not a passion.

PNG is never " falling over" it'll get a grant above the cap, so practically impossible. Besides, there's 11 million people in PNG, even if subscriptions are $2 , that's a lot of cheddar..add to that a willingness of government on both sides to contribute and the Chiefs being the best possible sponsorship outlet for the massive mining operations in the country...

No " falling over" is on any radar.
