Wallace might not be as good as he actually looks in the bronco's side but id be betting elliott would love wallace - summat right now

BTW its a shame penrith arnt doing better, otherwise i recon Summat would be an origin contender, he's playing super footy atm

That halves combination would have a lot of potential, but i doubt it would be reached at the Panthers. And Jarrod Sammut would probably not get picked for NSW because of his size... Preston Campbell was over looked quiet a few times, even when he was one of the form players in the NRL.

The whole Peter Wallace saga is wearing thin.Bottom line is Penrith wanted to keep him.But Gower was still at club taking a large slice of salary cap.Gower assured club he was staying meaning Penrith could not match Broncos offer.Good luck to him he took the offer that was best for his future

Im loving you guys pretending that cutting wallace wasn't such a bad idea. Sounding like Canterbury after Thurston left them.

We didn't cut him. We couldn't afford to keep him... or atleast we thought we couldn't since Craig Gower was at the time, staying with Penrith.

That said, we didn't miss out on an Origin player. Broncos developed one. Our club has a long way to go before we develop any Origin players. Peter Wallace was no better then Sammut or Blair are for us. Infact, our results this season are better then last season.

Wallace is a good player, better than average, playing his best footy ever, but in my mind he's a long way from being a player of the calibre of say a Gower or Girdler.

Petero is the best forward in the game by a long shot, when you think about it, its hard to think of a better player at the moment.

Totally agree with you.

I think Wallace was picked for origin because he is quite big for a half back and has a good defensive game and for no other reason. He is tough.

Wallace is nowhere near as good as Gower. If it came to a decision of retaining Gower or Wallace I would have chosen Gower for sure.

Petero is the best individual signing we have made as a club since Chris Mortimer in the mid 80's. He is already changing the culture of the team with his attitude. I never realised how good this bloke was until he put the Penrith colours on. He is a standout front rower in the NRL.

BTW its probably best you not go on about Craig Gower being the reason Wallace was not signed, i and everyone else in penrith knew gower was heading off, be it ESL or Union long before Wallace signed for brisbane.

The sad fact is M.E didnt rate him and didnt see a future for him at penrith, add to that my mail is M.E garenteed the penrith hirachry the signiture of Todd Carney.

I think as far as the halves go for Penrith it's just a case of being a bit patient while we wait for a few potential superstars to come of age in the lower grades

As for Peter Wallace

Wether the decision was right or wrong it's done

Wallace is a good player in a very good side.

In a side which is less than average ie the Panthers in recent seasons he himself was less than average.

From the time the club decided to allow Gower to leave, then I will admit I wish we had kept Peter Wallace as he surely would or could have done a job for us this season.

As things turn out Panthers supporters will just have to be patient for another year or two until Harry Seika is old enough to take over the reins. The best young half back I have seen since Greg Alexander. This kid is something special. If you do not believe me get down to the Western Weekender and see for yourselves.

The thing about Gowie was that for many years, he provided consistent excellence. The odd slow game and sure he was less than his best in his farewell season. But at his peak, he was genuinely feared by opposition sides and supporters. Those feelings of misery for us opposition supporters seeing his name in team lists.... went on for years.

Ive said it here before, from a live-game perspective, I only ever saw Bob Lindner put on more dominant game than Gowies 2004 effort v Souths at the SFS. But even Lindner wasnt injured like Gowie was that fateful evening. Mind you, he ran out injured. He seemed to be the only player in history, who ran out with a bad injury but looked happier and healthier at the end of the game! I dont remember the score, I just remember Souths being comprehensively slaughtered by Gower and trying to protect kids in a crowd fight that broke out close to me.

I find it hard to envisage Wallace ever coming close to that. I suppose he's young and I should keep my mind open.

And Wallace just doesnt have the same dominance that Gower had. He doesnt make his mark so thoroughly and forcefully. When he starts to doing that for three or four straight seasons, he might have a remote chance of being deserved to be mentioned in the same breath.

Now Gowie wanted out for the union business. The club green lighted it as a form of gratefulness, but the ARL quashed it. Thats the mail I had at the time. It doesnt lead me to think he was disloyal, he'd pulled far more than his weight for years beforehand.

Look at all the crappy halves today compared to Gower at his peak? Theyve got absolutely nothing on him.

And it still makes me ill that he wasnt included in the leagues top 100 players because on a talent basis alone he wouldnt be astray in the top 30.

It didnt matter how injured he was, he always wanted to play.

At the end of the day, he was just a brilliant football talent and we should all consider ourselves pretty lucky to see him play.

Wallace is a cuddly labrador pup compared to the giant and fierce doberman that was Gowie at his peak.

Woof!

Well said Dave. ;-) i do feel for Gowie, i only hope one day he returns to the NRL, hopefully to Penrith to finish his career.

i am a convert to Bobby Blair, i think his defense is top shelf and he has a good kicking game those 2 things alone should keep him in the No.6. with some good coaching he'll only get better.

and lets not forget Wade Graham who is not far off first grade now

Murray, we seriously need to exercise caution with regards to the progress of Wade Graham.

Let's not forget his age and the fact he was still in the SG Ball until about round 5 this season.

Wade has also played almost all his junior reps in the 5/8th position and again attempting to convert him into our starting half would surely be detrimental to his long term development.

Yes Wade Graham has talent and ability. Can he do what Mitchell Pearce has achieved in terms of coming thru into the top grade at such a young age well I'm not so sure.

I think the fact we are even talking about Wade Graham making his NRL debut is surely a blight on the management of our club. As most would know I stick up for our management more than most. Having said that, the fact we may be forced into the premature situation of blooding Wade Graham so early is indicative of poor management which is disappointing.

The fact we are on the fringes of the top 8 is frankly astonishing considering our lack of a true 6 & 7 combination. Sadly, I am not sure we can sustain it.

I told you that in Feb of 2007 after watching him in a trial match @ Cessnock

I also said that Woolnough is a poor signing.

Havent seen Harry Siejka play, but Ashton on the Penrith forum says he is one to watch.

Harry Siejka is a talented young player, eligible to play H Matt in 2008.His older brother Stirling played H MAtts last year for Penrith.

Another player to watch is SG Ball prop Sam Mckendry from New Zealand U16's 2006.

Woolnough hasn't had a chance to prove himself...imo he did great the two rounds before being injured.

I think with our forwards and outside backs in pretty good form the halves is the only real flaw. I'm pretty sure Matthew Elliot made the eight a couple of times with ordinary halves at Canberra. Making the top 8 is quite achievable if we start winning at home more often but making the top 4 or being a premiership contender with a makeshift halves combination? No can do. Lewis can do the job this year but it won't help for next year obviously. We are the only club I can remember playing two centres in the halves
