FAN favourite Petero Civoniceva will return to Brisbane to finish his NRL career with his beloved Broncos.
In a shock development, the Penrith Panthers have granted their captain a release from the final year of his contract.
In a statement, the Panthers said: "It is with much regret that Petero Civoniceva has been granted a release from the final year of his contract with the Penrith Panthers.
"Petero met with General Manager Phil Gould last week and indicated his desire to return home to Brisbane to be with his family."
Civoniceva is a life member of the Broncos, having played more than 200 games for the club before he joined the Panthers in 2008 after an at-times bitter split.
The Broncos have not confirmed the signing but will hold a media conference later today.
Phil Gould said: "The Panthers understand the reason behind Petero's decision and feel it would be unwise to stand in his way." "Petero has been tremendous for the Panthers. He has given great service to the club, the community; not to mention outstanding leadership to our team.
"His influence at Penrith will be evident long after he's gone."
Civoniceva has signed a one year deal with the Brisbane Broncos.
