I tend to agree, but the top job requires a top salary tbh.

I'd rather 300k going to Meninga than Sheens.

Watch Mal start junior pathways, emerging camps, be in close contact with both SoO coaches, oversee all AUS teams, schoolboys, PM XIII.

They will have their own coaches, Mal will coach the national team, but look over the lot.

I say well played Mr Grant, I do also think he (Mal) will pick the best, blues will make the side.

Like really 2 billion dollars, 300k is cheap as for a dedicated man to plan our national team..

Well its less than a dollar for every person who now WON'T watch the Kangaroos since they're being shunted to the off season.

Shunted? Or simply a different decision than your preference?
Fact is from next year onwards, the roos will play more matches than they have in the past 10 years

Bullshit. Just out and out lies.

They will certainly play no more than they have been and more to the point they will:

1. Never be a full strength side ever again due to off season surgery.
And
2. Less people will see them play.

How wonderful for the Kangaroo brand. But keeping sucking the arlc sav. Just saying "fact is" before spurious nonsense only fools the other members of the NRL circle jerk society.

This must be the easiest job in sport for 3 years out of every four.

The only time he will raise a sweat is in a World Cup year.

Im glad they picked mal..

Australia needed a wayne bennett or a craig bellemy, someome use to recognising and blooding new talent in aging teams..

Mal as looked after the most stable team selection in RL history while incharge of QLD..his spine that has carried him,qld & aus will be gone in 18 months...is mal capable of brimging on the next gen?? I don't think he is

This will be one of his biggest challenges as coach finding a spine that will replace Slater/Cronk/Thurston/Smith.

100% the money meninga's getting paid has massive potential to implode on him after his mates are no longer around.....he clearly works best on besties type approach because his post football career was abysmal before scoring the toads sweepstakes

The 2015 Qld team had six players in it who were there in 2006 when Meninga took over. Those other 11 players didn't just appear over night, they were all blooded by Meninga. To say heis lucky and had a stable team is ridiculous, the team he inherited had just lost its third series in a row. To me that suggests that he actually knows very well how to introduce new talent and blood players.

My god NSW is pathetic.

This is a construct of the NSW media, who unfortunately have chosen to focus on the Origin angle at the expense of what is best for Australia.

Betros and the QRL have been most supportive, publicly so, since Meninga first expressed interest.

You pommies are like NSWankers - always obsessing about the opposition.

And yet here you are, in an international forum, in a thread about an international coach, carrying on about NSW..

Good ole Mal "got nothing from the game" Meninga except for shed load of money for doing bugger all. Remember that huge aluminium arm guard he us to clobber blokes with when they called him SmellMeFinger.

So along with playing the Kiwis at the end of season each year, including 2016, and the final mid year anzac test in 2016, the roos will play the 2016 four nations (likely 4 matches), the 2017 WC, the 2018 Bilateral tests, the 2019 Confeds cup, 2020 bilaterial tests, 2021 WC.

So, likely to play a total of 6 matches in 2016, 7 matches 2017, 3 matches 2018, 6 matches 2019, 3 matches 2020, 7 matches 2021.
That takes it to 32 matches from 2016-2021.

How many did they play from 2010 - 2015?

Conjecture. Pure conjecture. They were supposed to play ashes this year and ended up playing f**k all. So if you want to compare a made up list of future games with what the current admin provided this year, then yes they will play more. They could hardly play less. The last time the kangaroos played so few tests in a year was in about 1976 and even then they played a couple of non tests. That's the level of interest and commitment from this current NRL centric oxygen thieves.

This so called nrl centric admin voted in agreeance with collier's strategic plan, agreeing to play more tests. They have also appointed a full time coach and continual state that they are making test footy the pinnacle again. They agreed to underwriting the pacific tests, they spent money employing development officers in the pacific, they also appointed a ceo purely for the WC.

To me, that indicates that the current admin are more committed to international footy than any admin before.

Oh yeah. I can see how when you completely ignore all the stupid things they do and all the neglect and undermining and then totally exaggerate and give undue credit for things they actually haven't done that you might come to that view.

This condition really needs a name. Something like circlejerkitis. Its where you believe every bit of spin that comes out of nrlhq and ignore reality.

In reality they've removed the kangaroos and therefore any international event that will gain any kind of exposure from the NRL season to the off season when they will be weakened. They've cancelled the ashes series because they have neither the will nor the ability to make it happen. Everything else they do is ALL about promoting the NRL, not international football, or is actually being done by the rlif that they're claiming credit for. There's a reason the rlif refused to accept richo as rlif CEO. They want the NRL morons as far from it as possible. Even the boss of the world cup committee is from the nswrl, not the NRL.

We have a national team? More like a bunch of players who get called together every year or so for a couple of exhibition games.

I hope this appointment is the start of elevating the Kangaroos to prominence.
