Phil Rothfield- Nine Sydney teams is too many

Buzzard Rothfield is on to something for once in his ill spent life. Wests Tigers needs to be liquidated.

Next we need to move a Sydney team to Cairns. The Far North Queensland Sharks would be the best decision ever made.

Cronulla Sutherland could then merge with St George-Illawarra to make up a mighty Combined Southeast Sydney-Illawarra South Coast.

Add Perth Reds, Brisbane Bombers and Wellington Orcas immediately and you have the best 18 team footy competition in Australia.

In five years time add Adelaide Crows and PNG Hunters and you have a masterpiece of 20 team international club football competition

In ten years time you add Fiji Bati and Christchurch Christians and you have a powerful 22 team competition. Rename it the South Pacific Rugby League.

In fifteen years time add a fourth south Queensland team and a central Queensland team and you have the ideal 24 team international competition.

No. Any dirty deal to accommodate the Sharks within another team removes hope of winning another premiership for those supporters. Leave them on their own please - they'll either never win one and make all other supporters feel better about their own teams or they'll eventually win one and the supporters will give it away... fold the club then!
Some rationalisation is needed for Sydney teams. Commission will need to make the hard decisions if it is to be done right..
They can't stop financially supporting clubs as they could end up losing all teams representing certain geographical areas and have to plant a new one to maintain best representation.

12 Sydney teams for a Premier Comp and let the teams from the bush run their own bush-league comp.

In the famous words of an ex-PM "if you're not living in Sydney, you're camping out"

Combining any other teams in Sydney would be ultimately pointless IMO. Everyone is either too geographically far apart, or if they are close they are bitter rivals.

I'd sooner see the roosters fold completely than be merged with Souths, and I'm sure all Souths fans would agree with me.

Either way, getting rid of Sydney clubs will cost the league fans. 6-7 years ago you might have been able to get me to keep following the sport in general if the Roosters folded, but these days no roosters equals no NRL for me.

Adelaide Sharks has a good ring to it

They can even play 3 heritage games at Endeavour Field

If the developers dont transform the area into aged care facilities

They've left it too long, they had 2 chances to start again (88 and 95) and failed. Killing clubs probably isn't the way to go now, given that casual fans are dropping off and the NRL needs its diehards more than ever. Merging won't work. It's just too late.

That's hilarious Phil, because while I agree with you, your club is one of the first I think should be given the axe.

Why dont we just head towards 20 teams

They you can create two divisions of promotion relegation

Then you just need to promote the NSW Cup and QLD Cup premiers and we can introduce a ESL Super 8 system

? And if the NRL were to make a hard decision, would be impossible for them to do so considering South Sydney overturned a decision for them to be thrown out of the comp?

Actually its a little known fact that Souths lost on appeal. Rupert/NRL didn't enforce their omission.

We could get arko to run it, bring back Glebe and sydney Uni

Who cares? As long as there is a decent comp the whiners can stay outside of Sydney and run their own. Without Sydney money they'd have to play online, but who cares outside of QLD anyway?

What little credit Slothfield had with Rugby League fans has been destroyed by his continuous bagging of our game in recent years.
His continuing bad mouthing of Dave Smith is not only embarrassing for him but even the Murdoch media.
I wouldn't p### on slothfield nowadays even if he was on fire.

Indeed

Kick every non nsw team out the comp, set the delorian for 1984 and let the good times roll

Absolutely. Eventually Sydney gets a gutful of subsidising the bush teams only to hear them whinge year after year.

The answer is easy. Run your own non-Sydney comp.

Or STFU.
