That would have heaped pressure on Warner in the twilight years as well.

Who knows what would have happened. Renshaw like Hughes got shuffled around a bit too much when he fell out of form. Hughes record in England isn't the best (Not many matches) but he batted at 3, 6 and opened. Too much mucking around.

I think today is 10 years the day the incident happened, I remember my mates telling me around lunch time that they were getting updates on live scores that Hughes was in a good form just passed his 50, then about half later my called me said that something serious had happened, play was abandoned. At the time we didnt know how serious it was until, they mentioned he collapsed and an ambulance was called. It wouldve been around 3pm they said all Shield games were called off.

I can't believe it was 10 years ago. Such a sad time.

I was at home following it on my laptop as my shift at the job i was at didnt start to 4pm that day.

I missed the actual ball but about 10-15 mins after i saw some social media comments about it so i crossed to fox sports news before i left to work there was this sense of shit something is really bad here the reporters at the ground were not sure either on how to report it.

What happened to this young fella on that day puts things in perspective.

Yes we're struggling on the field in Perth but at least we're around. Poor kid and his family missed out on so much of life.

Today is exactly a decade since Hughes' passing. It's feels hard to believe a decade has gone that quickly.

I remember coming back home and preparing lamb chops for dinner before turning on the tv to find out he died (a few hours earlier). Called my mum and she was very upset.

Thoughts and prayers with Hughes' family today.

As a massive cricket fan, this still hits me. Can't believe its 10 years.

I found out he passed away around 3 in the afternoon after a friend told me at work and was in complete shock and felt numb. I didnt want to work for the rest of the day.

Dropping him midway through the 2009 ashes was a horrible decision in hindsight.

I agree with Khawaja it messed with his head more then he would have admitted.

It led to more uncertainty with him internally and externally.

It's why I don't want Konstas in for another 12 months. It's no good burning young kids early because it can take 5-6 years to recover from being dropped even if you do make it back there is always that thing in the back of your mind your 2 bad tests from being dropped.

I was at the first two tests in 2009. I seem to be recall our openers struggled but Katich copped a horrible decision and I think Hughes was out off a no ball at Lords.

I was shocked in disappointed in Australian selectors dropping Hughes after the two tests. Yes Watson got a decent score but it was unfair to drop Hughes after a great series in South Africa. I dont think the batting for Australia wasnt an issue. The bowling was terrible and shouldve done better.

Was a good documentary. Focused mostly on his career and personality rather than his death. Definitely worth a watch.

Hughes was dropped because Myth Johnson was sad and the Barmy Army were being mean to him.

Ponting never wanted him picked in the first place, I remember when people were pushing him to tour South Africa Ponting poured cold water all over it and said he’d rather Hayden play on because he new what he was getting with Matty and he wouldn’t have to help out an experienced player like he would with Hughes.

says plenty about Ponting as a skipper, sounds a bit like Bea Arthur and it’s not my job to do anything @King-Gutho94 @Incorrect

Leading the team and encouraging new faces in the side is not the captain's job....

How was Cardiff mate.

I have done Edgbaston & Lords 2019, Manchester 2023 and the atmosphere is awesome.

A couple of mates went to Cardiff 2015 test and reckon it was good town though they got smacked that test match. Hadds & Watto never played again.

A shame about the ending though on Day 5 in 2009.

I remember being up all night as that day 5 in Australia was Sunday Night and it was the July School Holidays.

That cost us the series that last day we should have rolled them. How we let two bunnies in Anderson & Panesar block out 45 mins of play was simply embarrasing.

We win in Cardiff we win 2009.

The amount of cock ups we have had in England since 2001 and not win a series in 23 years is embarrassing really.

The Arthur name when it comes to coaching is a bit of a joke really.

Bea Arthur & Mickey Arthur should get together and write a book on ways not to coach an elite sporting team.

Call it the Arthur Way
- Suspend blokes for not doing homework
- Not organize a team bus for a big game
- Celebrate mediocrity (Quiney 9)
- Nepotism/Toxic work Environment

Not to mention the catch claimed by Andrew Strauss at Lord's that clearly bounced
