Roosterphin, the way i see it, we paid 9 mill for the Southern Franchise and got the deeds of the Steeler Club to prove it. If we didn't buy it someone else would have. Now we only need one more property of the same colour in the same vicinity and we can build Motels.

The Steelers jersey is getting its rightful acknowledgement for a day and I don't mind that. The Red V is still the most recognisable and the blood and bandages is #2. I'd be interested to know how many are sold though.

I do think this is the thin end of the wedge for the club to spring the Sheilas jersey on us as the away strip for 2005.

Just change the St George Bank logo of the front.... that looks bloody stupid. It should look more like the one that was on the sleeves last year.

Just because you guys put money in and wear the old St George jersey doesn't mean you rule the world. The Steelers probably would be. Someone else would have bought them out if it wasn't the Dragons. Accept it, the St George Illawarra Dragons are a team now. If you and other people go around trying to boast about how it should all be St George, thing s will blow up in your face.
E.G. Illawarra uniors will play for someone else, WIN Stadium will no longer be "home" (i.e. you return to the ground that doesn't meet training standards at some places), and so on.

Richo, I think you have gone over the top, and Southern Saint your just a f**king idiot! We are St George Illawarra, but i do not think the jersey should be worn for the following reasons:

-Has only enhanced the US V THEM mentality within the club
-At the game we will hear cheers of Steelers which will only reignite Divisions
-And that The St George Illawarra Dragons should recognise how much the Illawarra has put into Rugby League and the JV but running out in a Steelers strip for a one off is not the answer.

The Steelers knew the logo was non-negotiable when the JV was first formed - that's why it's nowhere on the JV's jersey. To bring it back now, six years in, after we've been told we're all "one club" would be divisive in the extreme, as would be using the Steelers jersey as an away strip.

They're a 50% stakeholder in the JV, yes. But they put in bugger-all of the cash, which means that St George hold the upper hand in the JV - that's how business should work.

Yes. St George have the money to stand alone & Souths have proved you can do it. Illawarra succumbed to mis-management & fan apathy - it wasn't the Dragons fault.

Maybe someone else would've "bought out" the Steelers, it's not my concern. St George were doing alright pre 1999 - I have no doubts in our ability to stand alone again.

The funds that we have been using to pay Illawarra's way could be used to recruit well, fix Jubilee & compete in the NRL again.

I've never said I can't stand Illawarra - I am merely showing my feelings for my club, St George.

I've had this nic on various internet sites over the years - I am from Arncliffe (in the South of Sydney) & I go for Saints. It's pretty self-explanitary but I'll change to Ben S. if it helps you feel better.

Gotta say though, your club is now "St George Illawarra" isn't it? Not just "St George".

I'm also not saying that the Steelers Logo should be on the Dragons jersey all the time. But with this one off thing "celebrating" the heritage of the Illawarra Steelers, surely the Steelers logo should be seen somewhere on this commemorative jersey!!!!!

One jersey is as "divisive" as the other.

No, the Red Vee is the jersey of St George Illawarra while the Scarlet strip is the jersey of the Illawarra Steelers.

Its pretty simple. This is what St George DRLFC agreed to when forming the venture but more importantly it is what was promised to the fans. As this has ceased to be the case I think Saints would be well within their rights to remove their support of the club and/or demand they cease to use all intellectual property associated with St George.
