Pixie Skase returns to Australia
November 22, 2004
THE widow of fugitive Australian businessman Christopher Skase flew into Melbourne this morning.
Mr Skase died in 2001, having fled to Spain 10 years earlier with personal debts of $170 million and corporate debts of $1.7 billion.
It is the first time Mrs Skase has been back to Australia since his death.
The Australian Government spent nearly $3 million pursuing Mr Skase, before being advised last year that he had few assets left.
Attorney-General Phillip Ruddock told ABC Radio the Government could devote more resources to the case if the bankruptcy trustee wanted to examine Pixie Skase.
"The issue of an examination is whether or not the trustee believes that there is further information that might assist him in recouping assets," he said.
"If there are assets then there is a responsibility to get them back."
