I'm going for indifferent at the moment. We're losing some good players, gaining some players who have the potential to be as good but are nowhere near that year. Despite the fact I said earlier that we don't absolutely have to sign a prop for next year, I'm starting to change my mind on that. The experience alone that Davico and Wiki brought to the pack is irreplaceable. We need a prop, and one with plenty of first-grade experience. The problem is I doubt there's one available.
I'm particularly worried about Weyman for next year. I'm assuming that he will be our starting prop, but his tendency to get injured worries me a lot. Should he get injured next year, the only real specialist prop we can call on is Mark Bryant leaving the stocks pretty thin should Bryant also get injured. I suppose the likes of Miller, Rothery and Hodgson could play there, but they are in my view specialist back-rowers.
I'm not into blaming management for our losses here apart from Davico. Trying to trade him off to Melbourne in the first place to secure Kite was a terrible thing to do to such a loyal Raider, and as a result we've lost his valuable services. Wiki and Monaghan did what they thought was best for family and career respectively, and I don't hold any grudges for that.
Next year could shape up to be a good year IF we can keep our best players on the field. That's a big if though, and unfortunately beyond that the stable of first-grade quality players is still looking a little thin.
