Players refusing to sing the National anthem in protest

I just tune into Ch9 30 minutes after the scheduled kick-off time so I don't have to watch 5,000 commercials, listen to the jizz-fest from commentators, listen to aunt/uncles welcome to this patch of grass, or listen to the anthem.

I'll catch up on what I need to be offended about in this thread on Thursday morning.

But then how will you know about the price of a KFC Family Feast, or how to cure a hard earned thirst?

On topic, if the lads don't want to sing it, they shouldn't have to.

The last 200 years has been less than kind to them.

The anthem is shit, it should be Waltzing Matilda, and John Williamson should exclusively be only able to sing it.

Good on them
The song is archaic and was from time long past.
The world has changed.
The kiwis do this stuff right.
Agree re: the Kiwis. I like the way they perform the first verse of the national anthem twice, first in Maori and then in English.

I think we should pen a new anthem, agreeable to a significant portion of the population, and sing it once in English and repeat it another in the 13 traditional Indigenous languages that are still taught.

“When gallant Cook from Albion sailed,
To trace wide oceans o'er,
True British courage bore him on,
Til he landed on our shore.
Then here he raised Old England's flag,
The standard of the brave;”

That's the original second verse - but check out verse five:

Shou'd foreign foe e'er sight our coast,
Or dare a foot to land,
We'll rouse to arms like sires of yore
To guard our native strand;
Brittannia then shall surely know,
Beyond wide ocean's roll,
Her sons in fair Australia's land
Still keep a British soul.
In joyful strains the let us sing
"Advance Australia fair!"

Not the most inclusive of language there.

I've heard Dutton sing that verse in parliament.

How doesn't it represent us as a whole?
It's the most generic anthem possible.

Couldn't care less if they don't sing it, I don't usually sing it. But don't see how it could be offensive, it's just meh.
