I would be interested to know if those were all from standing starts or whether they get a run up first, or whether some of them were and some of them weren't.

Hmm, imagine how much faster Billy would've been if he was hampered with that oesteitis pubis (sp?) problem for all of 2004. :D

The same goes for Brett, he wasn't fully fit untill about halfway through the season.

F: Anthony Watmough, 94kg - 4.83
F: Tom Learoyd, 115kg - 4.88

Who was saying Learoyd was faster than Choc?

I was recently reading Jason Robinsons book and he was talking about how useless these sort of statistics are in determing how good or fast you are on a football field. He was basically saying that running in a straight line for 40 metres from a standing start (usually on a surface other than grass) is completely different from running with a ball on grass with 13 other people trying to cut you off and pull you down. While its interesting to see them, they are quite pointless.

I think a lot also depends on if the times are taken from a standing start or not.
A lot off players are quick off the mark but get run down, where as a winger who has a greater top end speed and runs onto the ball will be much quicker over the 40.

Shame the ball never gets to him

It will this year.

Doesn't mean he'll catch it though!!!

Bingo, seems to have a problem with his hands.

Oh well when Sheens gets that problem with his hands straightened out I will look forward to him crossing the stripe even more so than the 10 times he did in 15 outings last year, he improves on that ratio he'll be up near the top of the tryscorers list, and with .....
B: Shane Elford, 96kg - 4.36
....inside him, the turf at Cambo & Leichhardt will be sizzling.

Interesting that Wests will potentially have the two fastest players in the NRL playing together. I don't particuarly rate either player but it would be nice to have some exciting backs for once!

Gee I wonder if Learoyd was 21 kg lighter, I wonder who'd kid someone's ass.

For a 115kg prop/second row coming within 0.05 of a lock/centre shows that watmough is either A) Pathetic, or B) Learoyd is bloody fast and would be harder to stop.

Hope you don't need him to defend off his line this year :p

Woeful.
