PM's XIII down Kumuls 34-0 in league

September 18, 2005 - 5:09PM

In front of a large enthusiastic crowd, the Australian team led by retiring Sydney Roosters captain Luke Ricketson and coached by Mal Meninga posted five tries and converted four in a bruising encounter.

The crowd inside Lloyd Robson Oval was well behaved until the end when youths were chased by police and dogs to clear them from the field.

Outside the ground, police used tear gas and brandished rifles to disperse an unruly crowd.

Ricketson kicked the final conversion just on fulltime to mark the final game of his league career.

The Australian team will visit schools and health clinics to talk about HIV/AIDS prevention and combating violence against women in PNG as part of an AusAID funded promotion.

It wasn't the Kumuls that the Australian PM's XIII played, it was the PNG PM's XIII. Some of PNG's best didn't take part due to contracts in the UK.

They had highlights on ABC News tonight at 7. So there were cameras there, but not for broadcast I don't think.

Careful mate...Dont start this kind of thing unless its 100% true..reports claim the crowd had to be tamed but lets not start this unless you got a very good source....

Or maybe PNG played fine? Why would any of those Aussies play crap? They would be out to prove Tri-Nations selectors wrong...
