Not all parts of PNG identify with the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels.
There were other parts of PNG that were under the Japanese and fought for them.
Off course that is never publicly spoken about because the victors wrote the history books.

Could you link me to some history of this. I'm really curious because it's something I've never heard before.

I agree but it is the PNG thread.
Is ABC insinuating that you can’t gamble on any other sport other than rugby league in these countries? You can bet on anything, anytime, anywhere in this day and age. What a garbage puff piece.

The article does nothing to link the advertising on the Australian broadcast to increased levels of gambling in PNG… the only person that might end up losing his job is old mate photocopying and selling the tip sheets on the street…

But in any event … I’m sure that the PNG Broadcasters should take a “clean feed” of the game minus any Australian advertising

NRL betting here in PNG is already way too big to curb. And whether PNG get an NRL Team or not will not make it any difference.
Sites in Port Moresby are full of punters placing bets starting Wednesdays.
Tipping guides get emailed out hundreds and thousands daily.

Their Facebook is also followed religiously by some punters. https://www.facebook.com/PacificRacingPNG

And its not just betting on NRL. There is also AFL, English Super League, NFL, Soccer, France Top 14, Cricket and may more options.

Who said they were too small. Watching that makes very excited about the numbers of Rugby League players that are going to come out of PNG once they have their structures set up.

The hooker Finley Glare played with the Hunters until their Preliminary final loss couple of weeks back.
The fullback Ragrive Wavik just won the Jersey Flegg grand final with the Bulldogs.
The winger (No 2) is contracted to Manly and played Jersey flegg and NSW Cup for Blacktown workers this year.
The center (No3) is contracted to the Gold Coast Titans. has been upgraded into the NRL squad for 2025 as a development player.

Good to see so many in the Aussie pathway systems

This is a gambling problem not a rugby league problem. I absolutely agree that more needs to be done to curb the insidious impact of gambling but PNG getting an NRL team or not has absolutely nothing to do with it.
