Firstly, crowds and members do matter. Clubs have to be somewhat self sufficient in case the macro environment changes - we just had COVID for example. If the worst happens again they have to have the funds to survive. In any case, haven’t you had a go at the Storm because they don’t make money; now you are saying that clubs don’t have to self-sufficient?
Secondly, they would want to be. They are going to tip in millions and millions of dollars for an unlimited time without any revenue base are they? At least if you expanded anywhere in Australia and New Zealand, they will have money coming in
Essentially, your point is thus: backers tipping in money for PNG = good, backers tipping in money for an area that you don’t like = very bad.
Backers doesn't need to make money. Can use profile to promote brand which can be just as valuable. Australian government can offer funds for diplomacy reasons.
