Afl just added an unviable team is tasmania lmao

giants suns and lions aren’t viable either

You probably shouldn’t have mentioned the fumblers tbh
Lions are viable - higher crowds, sponsorship, and revenue than all NRL clubs other than the Broncos. Tas will be the AFL equivalent of NQ and will be viable. Suns maybe not and Giants are obviously a disaster, but if the NRL puts a team in PNG it will be by far the craziest and stupidest thing any Australian sport has done. Ever. By a mile. Surely this is simply another one of PVL’s headline grabbers, like second team in Melbourne. This cannot be serious.

Lions receive top up money from the afl like the giants and suns

the afl has said themselves tasmania isn’t viable

But at least the afl has given up on China after the 200 buses full of fans got lost on the way to the ground

Pirates Rugby League.

Perth / PNG

8 - 9 games in Perth - Primary home.
4 games in Port Moresby.
Hunters as Qld Cup feeder.

There are clear connections.

Colours - same already.
Mining - tick.

You made the exact same post about the bears moving it back to Sydney

cut n paste ?
I read the East's article, it sounded exactly like Bears' articles, "We'll whore ourselves with anyone to get in but only on our terms."

Exactly what is not needed, besides all they want is a licence, being a "joint anything" will just mean they angle themselves to stand alone eventually, they remind me of an old car salesmen, greasy, and will do anything to get that sale

I have a strange feeling this might all be a ruse...
They'll go ahead with the pNGasifika to make 18,
But as that shits the bed, they wont want another risky expansion, and just admit norths in sydney/gosford, and east tigers at suncorp
And be done with it... seems pretty lazy, but if it gets the clubs that are ready to join asap they might do it, all the need is a scapegoat, it might be a govt funded pasifika

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity

Cant beat that reasoning,

the afl has said themselves tasmania isn’t viable

It depends on what you mean by viable. All NRL and AFL clubs should be financially viable due to the distributions from head office of broadcast rights moneys. Both codes distribute a similar amount of around $280m to clubs. NRL gives each club around $18m and the AFL adjusts their split according to each club’s financial position. The average is $15.5m. GWC & GC get the maximum $25m, Collingwood, Hawthorn, West Coast, etc get the minimum $11m. Lions get around $18m.

PNG will be a long last financially across the two codes. It will be a massive financial drain due to the coast of flying 40 people in and out of PNG each week, and the extra you will have to pay players and staff to move to a dangerous third world country. So they will have the highest expenses and likely the lowest revenue. Seriously how are they going to convince 35 players, half a dozen coaches, a couple of medicos, and say 10 to 20 senior management staff to relocate. Can you find 30 - 50 locals suitable to fill the remaining staff? This is where PNG is not viable. They will be bottom of the ladder each season For eternity. The only positive is that it will give Wests and Dragons someone to beat.

Well you’ve been beating your chest with a ‘I know better than you’ attitude about Tassie for some months. The proposed stadiums about to bring down the government and the team is no longer a certainty. As such you are a pea brain.

Whats funny is that NRL massively upping the club grant in last couple of years to make every club viable is seen as a good thing. AFL doing the same is seen as a bad thing! No hypocrisy at all.

With the NRL now giving clubs $5mill over salary cap any new club should be viable (PNG aside). We can se from club accounts that a 20k membership, a 15k crowd avg and $9-10mill in corporate revenue is more than enough to be profitable in 2023.

Thing is, I'd bet that any Government funding does not last long. Someone will eventually trot out the "government money should be spent on hospitals/schools/roads not funding a sporting club" line and eventually it will bite with one side or another eventually terminating the funding. Also the talk of a "pasifika" side based in Australia? I mean is it really a "pasifika" side if it's home games are played in Australia? It would be like if the NZ Warriors relocated completely to Australia but still called themselves the NZ Warriors in my opinion.

That's will get trotted out now, if this ever gets legs.

It would be a massive black eye for any politician to defend funding millionaire footballers sucking off the taxpayer teat.

As stupid and unnecessary the Tas Stadium is, at least they can say "it creates jobs". And let's be honest, that's been a clusterf**k that will have long lasting repercussions. Imagine what an NRL side solely funded by taxpayers would be covered by the media.

PNG only creates jobs for an elite few.

The stadium and therefore the TAS team is still likely to go ahead - the unions are now pushing Labor to support it. Tasmania has a similar case to NQ Cowboys. Hobart is 50k bigger than Townsville and another 200k within two hours. They will be fine and certainly the least of the AFL’s worries whilst they still have GC and the drowning GWS.

I probably know a lot more about Tassie than you mate and how we feel about this stadium. A hell of a lot more.

Anyone who genuinely thinks expanding to Tassie is remotely comparable to expanding to PNG can be safely ignored IMO.
