The government down there seem so obsequious to fumbleball though that I would very surprised if it didn’t go though. When’s the next election down there?
The Stadium won’t go through. It’s not about the politicians any more. It’s about the approvals process. Those of us in the know down here have said that all along.
By the way is this the first time in history a sporting body which regularly accesses government subsidies has entered an agreement where it gets to issue fines to an elected government for not meeting timelines? This is just one of many reasons people down here hate this deal. One of very many.

Talk about being under the thumb of an organisation. The fine part is astounding to me

Once the approvals process starts that’s where the fun begins. There will be multiple objections that will hold up commencement, protests and goodness knows what else. The deadlines will close in and not be met and the AFL will start issuing fines to the government for not meeting deadlines. You could not make this stuff up.

Let alone the media and its` acolytes. This quote taken from the Hobart Mercury newspaper and repeated as if it could actually have some merit on the SportsIndustry site:

https://twitter.com/footyindustryAU
"Alarming figures showing the Tasmanian economy starting to struggle has prompted a call for Labor to support a stadium to stave off a possible recession."

The article goes on slavishly to declare that the stadium will also cure cancer, halt global warming and make every Tasmanian a millionaire. And that`s just for starters.

I'd be felling forests to make all the bookmarks for the drivel written on here.
Well just add his prediction to it then

anyone that thinks this bid is made up is ignoring all the articles and comments

people are letting emotion get the better of common sense

The stadium is a political hot potato no doubt, and will likely kill the Premiers political career.

But saying that an AFL team in Tasmania would be as unprofitable as an RL team in PNG is childish.

IF (big IF) Tassie gets a team without the shitty stadium deal involved, it's easy to envisage them being more popular then the Giants or Suns.

Another article in the Mercury today noted Tassie will be unable to manage the tourism boom this year. It’s a crap newspaper. It’s only read in the south.

By the way the Wookie has been posting absolute rubbish about the stadium recently. Great with stats. Should leave commenting on Tasmania alone.

We all owe the Wookie a great debt for his work but it doesn`t mean he`s above reproach. The quote I posted was a couple of days old and I seriously considered not posting it, despite thinking it was one of the most ridiculous things I`ve read all year, because I was apprehensive about the backlash. Any way it`s not like we all don`t post some ridiculous things and in due course get called out for it.

The comments about there being no response to the stadium by Tasmanians till after the agreement was announced was ridiculous and inaccurate. For a start we had no idea what a one sided deal it was. We had no idea the premier had secretly agreed to agreeing to the stadium being compulsory. We had no idea that the Tasmanian taxpayer was to become a potential debtor and potentially ‘fined’ by a sporting organisation and we had no idea the premier had deliberately hidden details of the deal from other political parties. I’m annoyed he is portraying us as complaining after the event. He is wrong. We were deliberately kept in the dark and the government is paying in bucket loads now and maybe dead in the water soon.

We’ll see if all these articles and comments from the arlc are just bs as you hope
Will all come down to if govt throws silly money at them and if easts agree to host it Imo. Can’t see it being feasible any other way. The arlc have proven to be incredibly conservative since their formation, I dont see them suddenly growing kahunas so big as to attempt something as risky as a proper png club.

You understand that i post links to anything that is related to the um...footy industry...on the footyindustry twitter feed (which is also not my site). That includes stadium construction.

Its literally verbatim in the article. its how the link posting works. Must i have a "links not endorsed by the poster" put on it.

Im not going to engage this here in this thread as its wildly offtopic.

Happy to debate anyone on this in the apropriate thread.
You’ll lose. Your starting point is absolutely false. The public has been hoodwinked. By the way name me another occasion where an arrogant sport run by boofheads like McLachlan get away with an agreement that fines the taxpayers for failing to meet a milestone in an agreement. Good luck.
