Not really an Australian domestic competition, Super Rugby is run by an international body. Would be like calling the AFC Champions League an Australian Domestic Competition when the AFC covers all of Asia.
We are still paying Fiji's druas salary, who cares who runs the competition

The sponsorship will already be in place, they were never reliant on aus govt money, but they certainly ain't gonna say no to albo throwing 12 times the amount they planned on aswell as grassroots funding, and bribe money for the nrl licence (which the clubs definitely want...will somone think about the poor nrl clubs)

i didnt speak of sponsorship…Im asking about how will people determine in 10 years time whether this move will be successful or not … not just for the team but for the NRL

Maranta had a proposed png team requiring 50 million investment to be viable

And he was gobsmacked Pvl got 600 million

The teams financial success over time won’t be an issue

People who repeat this mantra are just ignorant

Ignorant isnt a word you should use, it's offensive, it will make folks against any agenda you drive, you need to say things like racist, that ensures they really have to think about how to sledge the 3rd world cannibals a bit better, without coming of as the bad guy

But we will know by then right ? Personally I’m hoping the legacy of this team goes beyond some sponsorship deals
They already have sponsorship now, coca cola, digicel and Santos have been sponsoring the hunters and their local comps for the past decade

im not talking about sponsorship FFS … there is more to an NRL team than as a vehicle for sponsors
You brought up sponsorship, and that they'll get one in a decade theyve already had 3 for over a decade, need to be more specific with what your vision your trying to outline

Here is my initial comment on the subject that you responded too, and then you mentioned sponsorships …i think you must have mixed me up with someone else …apology accepted ..

So what will success look like in 2037 when the Govt money runs out ?

I would suggest that it would be a successful team perhaps still searching for their first Top 4 finish on the table , but one that is able to field a competitive team comprised of mostly homegrown players … with fully developed pathways in place that is producing talent for the rest of the competition in addition for themselves …

Is this likely to happen ? I don’t think we can definitely say yes ..but it’s certainly possible

“From a revolutionary thought bubble to an ironclad reality, the arrival of the PNG NRL side is a tribute to how rugby league at the elite level thrives in an expansionist mode.
The introduction of the PNG side in 2028, announced on Thursday, will give the NRL a growing empire in a nation where rugby league is uniquely the national sport.”

Correct that was coz you mentioned "when the government money runs out"
the whole point of the government money, is to help them BE self sustainable, not fall over as soon as it runs out, but the sponsorship was already there, they couldn’t fall over even if they wanted to, Basically they are automatically flush from the get go, they had sponsorship before our government came long anyways, this is the biggest cash grab from the NRL I have ever seen, it's great for the sport that I follow, it's great for png too

Ah…so you admit now that you mentioned sponsorship first … all good mate ..although it does seem that you missed the point I was trying to make initially …it wasnt about replacing the govt funds but their legacy …
