That’s always going to be the reality. I’d be interested to see how much teams would actually suffer from this

For example Perth will need to fly for every home game so it is a four hour trip to Sydney so much better than a six hour trip to New Zealand. Even if it is it would only be maybe two more times per year and they would see under the current system

Similarly Sydney teams already spent most of the time taking buses to play against Sydney team.

I am much more interested in a schedule that focuses on building rivalries and playing as many of these rivsl games as possible
Yeah, I hear you, Sydney-centric.

That's not ever going away, but if all ships raise with the tide then every game is worth watching, the nswrl is over, has been since Melbourne starting winning comps, if anything Sydney sides like Tigers, Bulldogs, Dragons, even lol@souffs now are all dragging our game down, it doesn’t mean they won't peak again, like Bulldogs did last year. But as soon as we create a great reason to bolster each game with this pool system, the NFL style intrigue will kick in, that game sux balls, but people love conference ladders and the
"can they make it" factor
If an expansion club was as bad as the wests tigers were they wouldn’t have survived

I think the non Sydney clubs will stop conferences and it’s only four Sydney ceos that want it (roosters souths can’t remember the other two)

Games become too sanitised for any real rivalries to develop these days.
Storm v Manly was brewing nicely but has petered away.

Why would PNG have any natural sort of rivalry with cowboys?
Perth v Manly, possibly Perth v Melbourne if we poach some of their players and lay the boot in a bit using the AFL angle is an obvious potential
and Auckland v Christchurch, if it happens, is a natural potential.

Bears & sea eagles is the rivalry

For the first time EVER in 2030 we could have as many non NSW RL clubs in NRL as there are NSW clubs. Now that's an achievement worth celebrating for a myopic sport like RL!
1908

The year the nswrl comp started

From that river everything else had followed

I’ve supported expansion from 1982 lol

If the nrl was 30 teams with 10 nsw teams I would be overjoyed

Nope, it will only benefit Sydney conference sides, imagine any athlete decision on a contract on needing to travel every fortnight from wherever, to not having to do it at all and playing for a Sydney sides, the competition will skew heavily and the expansion teams will crumble, thus the whole competition will suffer for it, we will basically reduce the expansion teams to all become Canberra raiders, while all the Sydney clubs will look like the marquee roosters
Wondering if anyone can point out a single benefit to non-Sydney clubs?
Can be tough enough recruiting players in regional teams. Let’s Say Perth and Tigers are both in negotiations for a player- both have the same cap to spend, Tigers can offer playing a game and then being home that night nearly every week whilst the likes of Perth you generally loose a recovery day traveling more than every second week- 9/10 you’re going to pay overs if you’re the out of town club- and people want to increase this advantage?
Warriors and NZ2 have the added burden of extra times with international procedures such as customs etc, plus having to connect to the regional Aus centres. NZ2 will have it even worse with Perth and Port Moresby will likely had to add another couple of hours via Auckland.
Sure some of these are unavoidable with non Sydney teams but why shift things more in favour for some teams?

If anything a properly thought out conf system could make it better for those teams with lots of travel imposition.
For example not having Perth and NZ teams in the same conference.

That's exactly what I'm saying, the reasoning is that they travel every fortnight anyways, but this seems to make the distance worse ad more often, then onto of that the Sydney side do bugger all of that, it's why the pool system of taking the furtherest side outwards and adding the nearest sides it is best, as they'll more likely travel to those areas morso, than having a full on expansion only Conference... its just not feasible, and creates no rivalries too

Travel times for non Sydney clubs are basically the same as now

Can’t find the post but someone calculated it here
