All i know is that the PNG players are the toughest and scariest in the world, they are all built like cement and hit like a train.

You could tell the Aussies wanted none of the niggle, they knew the PNG players would rip there heads off, even the normally cry baby Billy Slater was careful not to get up and touch none of them everytime he got smashed in a tackle.

Slater would normally get up and start chirping like a baby after getting smashed,he was far to scared to do so against the crazy PNG boys.

So glad Jarryd Hayne didn't play in that game, the crazy PNG boys would have ripped his head off and Hayne would probably be out for the season.

FI'm not overly concerned with PNG being a 'poor' country, but more the fact that the ARL do nothing to facilitate international growth of rugby league.
Consider Origin, where you have great talents in Folau, Hayne, Uate, Tonga(lol maybe?) and other polynesian blokes who give up representing their own country in hopes of achieving in Origin, Uate recently gave up playing for Fiji just so he could get a look into NSW.

folau, hayne, tonga are australian, what are you talking about? what do you mean their country? you do know that all the polynesians who have played for australia are australian as well!
yes, uate is a joke, he simply should not be eligible for nsw and australia, it is this ability to switch which is why we are way behind where we should be as an international sport.

In a way Origin alone is isolating talent within Australia and I won't be surprised to see a PNG team within the next 50+years made up of origin rejects/reserve graders because it's a representative alternative for most players.
PNG does have talented players, but what's the point if all of them are going to end up going to Australia, changing their allegiance to Australia and representing Australia for the sake of their career? If that keeps happening they'll never be strong. I don't see rugby league as a code that will ever develop a team or a solid, strong and consistent competition within any of the island nations.

no player from png would ever give up playing for his country for origin and australia, it hasnt happened and wont happen.

we can develop strong national teams from the island nations as soon as the eligibity rules are strengthened so players cannot switch allegiances, rugby league is actually promoted and developed in the actual countries themselves, and these nations are given regular, meaningful tests and tournaments both mid season and post season. this will give these countries the opportunity to develop their national teams over the next 10 years. they dont deserve to be world champions just yet, they need to be developed!

Australians in general are narrow minded, arrogant f**kwits anyway.

speak for yourself!

Are you phucking blind? the Aussies were scared sh*tless

right mate, whatever makes you sleep at night. not wanting to get involved in niggling sh*t and being scared sh*tless are not the same. it was a terribly ill disciplined effort from png, i know a fair bit about them and their players and i think it was one of their worst efforts in a long while despite not having the high score of previous encounters!

haha blame it on the ref.
wat a load of bs.

Just dreaming by fans hoping PNG would do better.
Nothing wrong with ref - he held back from blowing like 30 penalties.

So what they got one bad call - (from the touchies) regarding a forwards pass.
Get over it.
Its nobodies fault PNG (other than perhaps Tongia) had any outside back with some good pace to threaten the aussie line.

Its nobodies fault except for PNG rugby league.

IF they had some better go forward and perhaps some back like Tu'u Maori & David mead (injured) perhaps they could of competed.

Had those players not fallen out with PNG they would have had a half decent team.
Aussie should have killed them.

Very true...considering that only 5 players from the 17 that played the Pacfic Cup Final took the field against Aust on Sunday. Why ? Because of politics in PNGRFL.

And the display has not gone down well at all in Port Moresby and the rest of PNG.

PNG league fans are passionate about the Kumuls but at the same time can be unforgiving.

Already after just 1 game PNG Fans are are calling for Stanley Gene to resign and for Adrian Lam to be brought back and for the current lot in PNGRFL to step dfown as soon as they return home.

one thing that is concerning is the apparent lack of organsiation within the PNGRL. Stan mentioned that when he took over as coach a few weeks ago he had no idea who is squad was going to be and had to enlist the help of a player to start ringing around to see who was available.

Anybody who has had anything to do with the Kumuls (and I go back to 1977) will tell you that they are beaten by their internal system before they kick a ball in anger. Nepotism and the invariable "wantok" influence rear their heads and it's "game over".

The successful Kumul sides of Barry Wilson (late 1980's) and John Wagambie (early 1990's) were built around a nucleus of players who were allowed to stick together until the ferocious and very over-rated local media pulled them apart.

They didn't have NRL players or ESL players or returning overseas PNG players but were developed with care and due diligence by coaching staff who were allowed to get on with the job. Given the breadth of talent now available they should be a lot better than they were last Sunday.

Very sadly, the great names of PNG league, many of whom have gone on to successful careers, are now lost to the sport while the same hacks are still writing about it and another generation of power-hungry administrators fight over the bones.

Imho, should Lam come back? Sure, why not and should Gene be on the staff, sure why not? However, none of any of that will make the slightest bit of difference until the administration gets its house in order and learns to harness the local newspapers.

Also, to all the nongs who said PNG never play in the wet ... you've obviously never been to PNG and you've never lived in the tropics ... sure, Moresby is in a rain shadow but the rest of the country is not and the Bemobile Cup (ex-SP Cup) is played nationwide in all weather.

C'mon boys lift your effort, win an overseas start for yourselves and take the rubbish out of your game.

mate i think it was more out of respect to png then us being scared. that and the fact it would make us look like scum if we went around bullying and resorting to dirty tactics against a emerging national team like png. and as for the efforts of png. i thought their standard of defense was a lot better than what i have seen from a lot of nrl clubs this year. as for attack ,i think they did not want to pull all there tricks out of the bag to early in the comp against a team they had no chance of competing with. next week they will be a more attacking team.

If all PNG-elegible players were available, the result could have been very different.

Their defence was good - despite the scoreline, they kept Australia scoreless for half an hour, and a lot of tries conceded were off kicks (apart from some very soft ones late in the game).

Their fullback and wingers positioning was woeful however. And the less said about their halves, the better - they looked absolutely lost out in attack.

Yere was very impressive in defence, Benjamin John looked like he could actually create something too. If guys like Segeyaro and Thompson are available next year, and Mead stays injury free, you'll see a much more dangerous attack from PNG.

Costigan?

I loved watching them for the sheer effort they displayed though the 80mins. A little disappointed by some of the silly errors in the first half, plus the bad luck for the first try.
You could see how they would beat the other Island based teams at home, the intimidation factor would be huge, backed by a few (!) well placed shoulders.
It is a shame their best on and off field staff were not able to be put together for the 4nations, for various reasons.
