We are a far better team if Ponga comes back and plays 6... and doesnt get KOed. Armstrong backing up his half breaks could be lethal.

Nah, KP doesn't understand how to position himself as a 6. It just doesn't work.

Our halves are generally so putrid you just have to cop him being the main playmaker and not doing the traditional FB things like armstrong does.

Ponga can’t play 6. It’s not even an ability thing but he copped a significant amount of concussions there. We have a duty of care to protect players.

Armstrong has been great, but calls to move KP to a position that will knock him out are ridiculous.

Move Armstrong to the wing and turn Marzhew into a middle forward.

Was with you until right here mate.

Might be crazy but I think he’d have something to offer coming off the bench as a middle (with an off season there). He makes more impact than most of our forwards on his runs.
He’s making too many errors on the wing IMO and sides are working out that you just need to bomb and out jump him and it’s a guaranteed try.

Not saying I’d do it but just saying that IMO it’s no crazier than moving KP to 6 which we know will jeopardise his health and career to accomodate a kid that’s had some good games against not great opposition.

Besides not good catching high balls Marzhew can’t tackle, is brilliant with ball in hand though.
Middle forward NO THANKS

I didn't think it'd be anything terrible but yeah they certainly could have added more context in the post like 'Ponga International Update' even.

Knights socials giving everyone a heart attack

“Ponga update”

“Ponga has told the Newcastle knights today he is removing himself from eligibility for international selection to focus on the upcoming pre season”
100% had my heart stopping.

I would actually love to see him play for Australia but happy he is so focused on the knights.

Good to see he’s sole focus is with the club. Would’ve been cool to see him in the Australia team though playing with the best.

Honestly, he didn't need to do that. He's taking a lot of the blame for our lack of success on himself and it's not warranted anymore. Good on him for taking responsibility, but this is more than he owes us. He deserves to be out there in the green and gold.

I'm thankful, but sad for him. Sad that he's not had a better team put around him so that he didn't have to feel like he had to do this.

We should be pretty ashamed as a club that our captain feels like this is the answer.

Why are we assuming he didn’t want to do this? The blokes said before he identifies as a kiwi.

Mal was always going to pick Tedesco at FB - Ponga’s looking at the prospect of likely copping a concussion or injury by coming off the bench to play in the line against the kiwis. I wouldn’t want to play either. Everyone’s just up in arms because the media keep trying to talk up international football as being the pinnacle, and Ponga’s just kept dancing to the beat of his own drum like he always has.

The 360 mugs and Crawly saying that Kalyn’s brought the game into disrepute and Mal deserves better as he’s brought pride to the Aus jersey. Turn it up. His one eyed selections led to one of the worst losses for Aus ever last year.
