Ponga / Milkshake

Mitchell Pearce said his mum should coach the Knights, and Kalyn Ponga was more interested in his strawberry milkshake.

It seems the only person serious about Nathan Brown leaving Newcastle was Brown himself, who took another big shot at Wayne Bennett.

This bloke sounds like a mega f**kwit....time to let him go.

There's been a lot of strange answers to questions during the week... then to have that happen on the field. Obviously there's way more going on behind the scenes than has been publicised.

Hard to say what to make of it. It does seem like a bit of a player revolt at this stage... what's driving that is anyone's guess.

The stand-up comedian who is after 1.5 million a year as a way to get himself out of the club.
I'm not sure about the figures, but it wouldn't surprise me if Kalyn has said behind the scenes that he's not signing up longer for a losing team.

Hell, I almost can't blame him.

Just speculating, but if that were the case then the Knights would only have a year to get their shit together before he's on the open market.

I mean, just being real here... if we were the Storm or the Roosters, he would have signed an extension already. He's actually turning down money he could be earning now to keep his options open.

Hard to imagine a player say something like that from Melbourne or Roosters. For a leader to have that sort of an attitude is a big insight to a pretty poor culture there

There's also been several other interviews where players gave better answers. These ones came off as a classic "it's fine, everything is fine".

Im not even that critical about that as long as he sticks to his contract.....his attitude with the interview was unacceptable from a leader in your club.

Weird and stupid way to communicate that....considering we all know how the media works.

For sure.

I guess you have to wonder if Kalyn really has the most power at the club at the moment? Would we be willing to let him go over any given issue, or would we part the red sea for him? Is that healthy for a club?

No idea about any of it to be honest, or whether Kalyns even involved in any major way... but the situation certainly gets the mind racing along with possibilities.

No way is that attitude worth parting the Red Sea for. Knights are right to not give him that crazy money he wants.....it would affect the whole balance of the club.
Ponga is good...very good. But, he has had some games (recent ones) where he looked pretty lethargic and not quite there. He has some development to do.

In my opinion the kid is taking on too much of the hype and BS around him. He is a media personality already with his work with Fox, some of his answers to questions given to him are a bit off, smacks of arrogance.

Your coach has just been sacked/resigned, and when asked about your reaction you say you were drinking a nice milkshake so were not too unhappy! WTF? For someone who is already embarking on their media career in his first few seasons of first grade he doesn't seem to grasp the expected response to give to media.

If it was the players that revolted against Brown, why is he still coaching out the year, let Wolf finish the season off. If Brown fronted Gardner and said look I don't think I'm up to this any more, why is he still coaching the side when a finals berth is on the line? If Garnder had lost confidence in him, and gave him the arse, why is he still coaching out the year?

I honestly hope Brown is the problem because if not, O'Brien aint going to fix it.

Kalyn appears to think he is a comedian first, leader within the club second.

If he can’t give a shit about what’s going on here, why would anybody else in the team?

He needs to wake up to himself, stop believing his own hype and start giving a shit.

The best bit of pongas interview was when he said brown was sacked, then stumbled over his words trying to backtrack and keep up the charade.

I would let him go, that is not the attitude you want, regardless of how hot and cold your talent is.

PS: The Storm or Roosters wouldn't put up with his childish crap.
