Agreed there, but he'll improve with Hussey in the side. Cameron White is the best skipper we have in Australia and he is nowhere near a test spot.

It wasn't that long ago you said he was a smokey to be in the first test. You really come up with some tripe. BTW I don't expect you to reply as you rarely do when you are called out on your contradictions!

you will find over 6 innings (the tests he was captain, his average was closer to 40). The one not out you mention was a 3no

The thing with Gilly (which was noticeably missing on the 2005 ashes tour, and he want even captain mind you ;-) ) is that most series that he plays in, he scores one or two match winning or match turning innings. IMO He did that in the 3 tests as captain against India

104 & 26
3 & 49
2 & 3*
26 & 5

Series average 31.14 - as Captain about 37

Dont take me wrong - i have had man love for him since debut - my point was it is a massive load to be captain, bat and keep.

Knights, White was always a smokey for a 1st test spot as the selectors are facinated by a all-rounder at 6, and they view White as one of them. Is he a all-rounder, heck no. He is a batsman that can bowl a bit, similar to Clarke. I wouldn't mind having a punt on him as a no6 as a batsman that can bowl a little bit in the Melbourne test.

I think he is OK atm

he wasn't a year or two ago, but he seems to be learning

he also seems to be very strick and a hard taskmaster, he asks a lot of his players and he puts in just as hard, he wants a 5-0 result and wont ease up till its all over

his efforts in the field and that run out today is a good example

I think he's becoming a good captain. Warney would be better.

Waugh
Taylor
Border

3 very hard acts to follow. He may get there.

Well there aint many options. Cameron White is the best skipper in Australia but is not really in with a chance at test cricket yet.

I was just saying that White is the best tactical captain we have. Not saying he should be in the side though.

I think Ponting is a horrible captain, he is just lucky he has a good team and is such a good batter, Steve Waugh, now there was a captain

Among the rest of the side - Tugga had Warne and Pigeon in their absolute prime.

So it can go both ways - Aust. is always going to field a strong side.

while it is true that Waugh also had a good team, you could tell in everything he did and the way he went about things that he was a goodn captain

Looks like with Warnie and Mcgrath bowing out we'll see what Ponting's really made of. nearly 1300 wicket's taken out of any side would be a blow even for a team like Australia.

I hope he aint relying on Lee to spearhead the attack! The new ball better be given to Clark!

Lee and Clark took the new ball in Sth Africa and we won 3-0. i still our biggest worry is replacing Warney.

My dead dog could have looked good on those pitches in SA! Lee has served up absolute rubbish since 2000. We better not be relying on him!
