but if the nrl expands won't that open up a new audience resulting in higher ratings?
If the NRL was shown nationally at accessible times on primary FTA stations then the ratings would be higher and the NRL would be in a position to sell the rights for more cash. Some people are suggesting that by showing delayed games that finish late and are full of adverts, showing games after midnight in Australia's second biggest market, amongst other things, that channel nine is running down the value of the game so to make it less appealing to other bidders and therefore cheaper for them to retain the rights.
I'm guessing the theory behind the conspiracy theory is people are running down the value of the footy club is so that their mates can buy it on the cheap?
