Bomber, it's all logistical problems. It's pretty complicated I guess but it's basically for financial reasons.

I for one would like to see it there now though. Either that or a Pacific Island Lions side as well as Argentina joining the current Tri-nations to form a 5 nations competition.

You clearly have never been to PNG. Do you have any idea of the infrastructure of the nation. Enormous numbers of the population do not even know they live in PNG. The only means of travel is by air,( rather expensive in PNG). How does a country that is an economic basket case sustain a HUGE sport. In Moresby, Lae and Hagen league is very popular, but outside a few coastal towns the game is unheard of. Cricket is the most widely played game in PNG(not that it draws the crowds in great numbers) but in terms of talent then it has more potential bradmans and Lillies than it has Churchills or gasniers.

Someone suggested that league is as popular in PNG as Rugby is in places like Fiji. The difference is that in Fiji etc the game is national, in PNG it is limited to the towns, the isolated villages are totally unaware of the game.

What would you define as 'enourmous numbers of the population'?

One million? Two million?

You'd be surprised to learn that enourmous numbers of the Australian population don't know there's a rugby world cup coming up.

(Or for that matter, the NRL Grand Final..... :( )

Bomber,

I am not at all surprised that OZ residents are unaware of any sporting event. The only truly national game in OZ is cricket. It is my second love after rugby. If you look at your post you will see that you have answered your own question. As to what is huge in PNG, I have already said...only the mountains, poverty and lawlessness. It is a magnificent country but on the verge of anarchy.
