Potentially the best forward pack in the NRL in 2010

8. Roy Asotasi
9. Issac Luke
10. Dave Taylor
11. Luke Stuart
12. Sam Burgess
13. Michael Crocker

14. Eddy Pettybourne
15. Ben Ross/Scott Geddes
16. Dave Tyrrell/Ben Lowe/Jason Clark

Looks pretty imposing imo.

OF course, we have to get Burgess first. But if we do, that is arguably the finest pack in the NRL.

I would have Burgess in at Prop should we sign him and Taylor in the 2nd row. He has been playing wide for the Broncos and that seems to be working well for him. I also think next year we might see Issac Luke become an 80 minute player. If he doesn't we might see a spot on there for Clark or Falloon.

Here's one out of the box for you:

8. Luke Stuart
9. Issac Luke
10. Ben Ross
11. Roy Asotasi
12. Dave Taylor
13. Michael Crocker

14. Burgess
15. Pettybourne
16. Tyrell / Lowe
17. Falloon / Clark

I reckon if you have a couple of toilers in your side like Luke Stuart and Ben Ross, let them do the hard stuff and save the likes of Asotasi and Taylor to run out wide. Burgess and Pettybourne give you that Impetus off the bench. They come on and act as a pair of hard running strike weapons and the likes of Tyrell, Lowe, Clark can all come on and do a job for you as well.

After watching Clark go round the other night, I reckon Beau Falloon has another season of Reggies in front of him next year. Clark can do the role that Wing has been doing this year. Replace Luke for 10 minutes either side of half time and then move into the back row to give someone a rest.

I thought that Burgess was a prop aswell but all the Pommies on hear reckon he is better in the back row. I remember him playing a test against NZ at lock so he must be handy a bit wider.

8.Stuart
9.Luke
10.Asotasi
11.Burgess
12.Taylor
13.Crocker

14.J Clarke
15.Pettybourne
16.Tyrell
17.Geddes (Ross if he finds some form)

I'd consider Crocker off the bench for the simple reason that the game is a 17 man game and when the experience of Asotasi, Stuart, Ross go off, it would be nice for someone like Crocker to come in and add some guidance out there.

There is a bit of risk about the 3 signings.
Ross could do his neck in round 1.
Taylor is still trying to work out his game and may struggle.
Burgess may not adapt to the NRL at all.

But it is going to be a massive pack. The dirt that was kicked in our faces virtually every week this season will get kicked back in 2010. I hope.

Souths have a very strong pack in 2010 - that is a given.

Our backline has been below par for many years. However, in 2010 we will be strong 1-5. Wesser is likley to be back in 2010 and Meritt will be there. Vai Vai is going to be our main centre long term and either Best or Champion will be his partner. Talanoa will be the other winger.

We have many options in the 1-5.

Wesser

Merritt
Best/Champion
Vai Vai
Talanoa

Sandow will need to step up and he will be under a lot of pressure in 2010 to perform.

SS have the side to win a few GF's before the salary cap starts to bite.

I predict that Sandow will have to step up. If he can't take us to the top then Clarke or Webster will replace Sandow.

The era of perform or perish is upon us at SS.

JT and Sandow will have to perform in 2010. There are no maybes.

Also Sutton needs to play at his top every week - just about. With the likes of Dave Taylor there watch Sutto improve his consistency. Class players bring the best out of each other. Just watch a State Of Origin match.

sandow will have a good season with the forwards constantly putting us on the front foot. if we dont come top next season, jt needs to be sacked and never coach again.

just imagine how sutto will go with that kind of space to work with. it is scary considering his form when our forwards have been pushed around all year

Speaking of our backline

But by next Saturday we could have 4 players who have scored more than 10 tries

Merritt - 18 tries
Talonoa - 12 tries
Champion - 11 tries
Simpson - 9 tries

Simpson needs 1 more try to get 10 for the season and it’s a real possibility.

How many other backlines in the comp can say they have 4 players scoring over 10 tries each in a season?

Happens to pretty much every team

Why else do you think it's wingers, centres and fullbacks that are the highest try scorers?
because they score them out wide.
Why do props get very little tries?
Because most tries are alway scored out wide.

Do you even watch the game?

Lol now the genius's trying to say that we're defensively poor out wide after saying that our backs are sh*t altogether.
