anyone comparing the disaster Potter is walking into to Price taking over as first grade coach at the dragons (after being assistant already for 3 years, hence part of the system) is just plain crazy..
Potter has a club falling apart, where a small group of players call the shots.. a prima donna called Marshall where the previous coach bent over backwards to his every whimper..
i would hate to be Potter at the moment, if he manages to get the tigers simply playing consistent, competitive footy regardless of making the 8 it will be a successful season... if only Price could have achieved that...
We have all had our reaction to Price's first season as coach, now we all look ahead to his second season hopefully wiser and more experienced .With the Bennett shadow gone he should be judged more harshly as a finals spot can only be accepted. We have enough experience to guide our younger players ,obviously the number 7 is crucial but this is where Soward should step up.Can we do a 1996 and make the GF against all odds, don't know, but wouldn't it be bloody great.

Well depending upon which conspiracy theory you listen to we had an 'Illawarra mafia' calling the shots. I see huge parallels.

I've said it multiple times, look at the way we finished 2011 (apart from the semi against the Broncs) and Price did not walk into a joint that was humming. Loss of coaching support staff (so the 3 year system point is moot as he had to rebuild it), loss of key players in Gaz and Boyd, a key signing pulling the plug at the 11th hour, ageing players in critical positions, subsequent injuries and rep duties. Anyone not seeing what Price was up against, now that's just plain crazy. It doesn't suit some peoples bias and constantly negative outlook to see it that way though. It's much more preferable to put shit on the coach of your own club.

Potter is walking into a shitstorm only slightly worse than that which Price inherited. He has quality playmakers in Benji and Farrah and plenty of youth and talent in the forwards. If the harsh judges on here are prepared to give him more leeway than Price, well that's just piss weak.

you have some valid points, others debateable given Price was involved in the clubs internal processes and had opportunities to fix things before they became as broken as they were...
however as i said in my previous post.. all i asked for from Price is evidence that he had tactics and a strategy the team was all workings towards as a single unit. on the field top 8 would have been nice, but not necessary if he demonstrated he could get the team playing consistent, good quality football each week... at least give supporters some optimism he was building towards something...
but... it never happened... it was browns cows all over again... there was no consistency, no attacking plans or strategy... some games simply bordering on park football in attack...
this is why i crticised Price, not because we didnt make the top 8.
i will judge Potter the same, as you have mentioned that is the only fair way to do it..

Hang on a sec the Dragons finished poorly but still were 2 games off a back to back Grand Final appearance. At the START of 2011 (Price lovers forget this for some reason) Saints lost 1 game in the first 12 had 8 players playing origin and played the WCC in England before the season kicked off so you can excuse then for having a bad patch due to the heavy schedule. The Saints were going so well one betting agency paid out the odds at the halfway mark for them being Minor premiers because they still continued their consistent footy and looked like they would easily get their until Origin hit.....

In 2012 there was NO heavy schedule as such, basically the same squad bar 2 players and hardly many players playing reps. No excuses their. Price had all at his disposal. THey played like CRAP. Never looked dangerous at all in fact clueless with the ball. Worst I have ever seen them play in my whole life supportiung this great club.

You either type well for a 4 year old or you're talking out of your ass.

2007

Maybe he's only supported them for 3 years. That would make sense.

Btw SM, it's not how you start, it's how you finish. I agree with you that Origin and rep duties killed us in 2011. I don't agree with you that Price had a smooth operation to take over in 2012. We lost more than just 2 players, we also lost some depth and an almost entire coaching support group.

Anyway, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this issue.

Wests and Balmain Harold Matthews teams in Semis
Balmain SG Ball Premiers
NYC Premiers
NSW Cup Grand Finalists

Mick Potter has a lot of talent to work with and should do well. From all accounts, seems to be a nice bloke and is articulate.

Excuses, excuses, we are so full of excuses for Price. This season was not good enough, again not because of we didn't make the eight but because of the inconsistency and all the bravado:

Start of the season-----> working on our attack, you will see changes

Mid season----> it is a work in progress

Back end of season, after one good performance -----> pants pulled down comment

The player managers know it. The players know it. Price is building a dynasty but it is in the vain of sharks and rabbits of old.
