Interesting no Cartwright or Lane.
Not saying it's a bad thing, just interesting that 2 mainstays of 2024 didn't make your 17.

Where’s Lane?

He’s struggling in rehab - with reports so many of the other forwards are flying, even if he’s fit round 1 I think he starts in Reggies.

Carty may still get a run off the bench as the utility - he doesn’t strike me as a Ryles style player though.

Lane was barely walking last week, I think he’d be long odds to be fit in 5-6 weeks.

Carty appeared to be playing in the cup team for all the opposed sessions last week.

Just my opinion, I feel like in regards to lane. We can only carry so many big guys. His efforts off the ball just aren't good enough to be anything more than a prop with limited minutes. Atm I got Paulo, Joe o, matto all ahead of lane for that bigger middle forward roll.

Cartwright, that was a tough one. I just love what I see in kelma and Charlie. Two young guys we can build around.

Both of them won’t be here in 2026. Neither will Paulo.

Yeh I wouldn’t have thought so… they have all served us well and can hopefully still contribute in some way in 2025 but some fresh blood in the forwards is well overdue.

He would be next cab off the rank for me mate which means in all likelihood he could still play the full season out in first grade.

In 2023 for example, our first five middles (Ofahengaue and Greig counted as one player) averaged 20 out of a possible 24 regular season games. This in theory leaves 20 possible starts for Moretti at first drop.

I like the idea of carrying a back off the bench for one through seven coverage and I think that Bryce could be used when chasing points.

Carrying three middles on the bench is unnecessary. If split evenly, it would mean players like Hopgood, Matterson and Paulo would be asked to only play 40 minutes.

The only alternative would be to run with Moretti over one of the middles already in my 17. Joffa out?

Looks good. I'd possibly only have OFA starting instead of PAULO, and WILLIAMS starting instead of GUYMER - so therefore needing LANE on the bench in the middle rotation. I think RUSSELL and SIMONSSEN selection could go either way based on form during parts of the season, with the odd one out on the bench/as 18th man.

love it, what a great looking side

id probably have Joe O start at prop, Hopgood at 13 and matto comes on in the 13 after 25 mins plays the rest of the game at lock. just to save an interchange. Hopgood i feel has been miscast as a 80 minute lock, to me he is Nathan Cayless. play him for 60 mins a game, mostly at prop. Pair him up with a big boy just like we did with caylo and stringer or westley etc

i wish lomax would just play wing

Russell on the bench is such a good idea, he can give you serviceable play in all the backline positions and could plug a hole in the halves and edge forward if needed. i guess hooker would have to be covered by someone like dylan. with HIAs, you need this kinda of player on the bench.
