QLD is done now. Especially after the recent announcements from the Brisbane Broncos, Gold Coast Titans and the Dolphins claiming territory far further north than anyone expected.

You may not know but NRL has been cutting funding to NZRL for last few years. Not sure where this new found love for NZ has come from, maybe the Sky extra $'s as thats all Vlandys cares about it seems.

Too bad there's no money in Perth team.

While I think the Dolphins will need some time to "bed in", I don't share your certainty there.

Basically, if TV values another Qld club, another Qld club will be added.

TV only values Brisbane. Try getting Broncs, Tits & now dolls on board for a new competitor..

NRL to clubs: "TV will give us more money for a 4th SE-Qld team. Some of that will be yours if you get on board. Got me?"
They only got more money for dolphins from ptv to get broncos off fta. Another brisbane club isnt needed for that so where’s the value?
Fta offered no extra money for dolphins admission Blowing out the water the Brisbane content argument,

They only got $20mill of which $13mill is going to the new club and some of the remaining will be needed for running the additional 12 games, travel costs etc for nrl. The amount left over for the other 16 clubs is minimal if anything,

Sure mate. Expansion more than payed for itself at worse. If what you are saying is true & thats a big if then FTA isn't getting extra Brisbane content. 3rd Brisbane might be on cards

NRL 2050 - 22 clubs with full coverage of the major Aus & NZ markets and an iron grip on our heartlands that puts pressure on the other codes. How the comp works? Who cares... one comp where everyone plays each other once plus a rivalry round or magic round, conferences, doesn't matter. With the major markets covered the game should be swimming in more than enough revenue to handle this and with better pathway investment in the PI's, PNG, NZ, Victoria, WA & SA there should be more than enough talent flowing into the game.

North QLD
Dolphins (SEQ North)
Broncos (SEQ Central)
Jets (SEQ West)
Titans (SEQ South)

Newcastle
Sea Eagles (Sydney North and Central Coast)
Roosters (Sydney City and North Sydney)
Souths
Cronulla
Penrith
Canterbury
West Sydney Tigers (South-West)
Parra
Dragons (Illawarra)

Canberra
Melbourne
Adelaide
Perth

Auckland
Christchurch
Wellington

If it is a second NZ team they have to be based on the South Island - Christchurch - for a North ( Warriors) vs South Island ( Orcas or whatever they will be called) rivalry - No use them playing some games in Christchurch and some in Wellington and be half North and Half South.

Other Contenders would be the 2 QLD ones that missed out for the 17th team bid ( best to combine the bid I suggest) , Perth and Central Coast.

The issue with the NZ2 side is that the Warriors have not delivered on a regular basis since they came into the league in 1995 and Rugby is far away the dominant football code- will this improve the game in NZ and the performances of the 2 NZ teams including attracting more players to the game, more interest and sponsorship etc.

Perth will be hard as WA is rusted on AFL and Rugby is more popular than League as well - More likely to have a better chance of getting a foot in the door in the WA sporting market if a team was relocated than start one from scratch.

Central Coast would be an option but the Bears will need to be based in and play home games mostly in Gosford and not some half and half arrangement of dual bases and splitting games between North Sydney and Gosford.

It would End up somewhat as dysfunctional as Wests Tigers with 3 factions (Balmain/Wests Ashfield who own 90% of the JV/ Macarthur Wests Tigers who the other two factions ignore) not on the same page when everyone can see that they should be based in Campbelltown and play home games mostly at a re-furbished Campbelltown Stadium

The more teams you add the more the draw becomes dysfunctional - conferences and or divisions will need to come in as when they do all teams will play the same teams the same number of times in their conference or division which will sort out the issues with the current draw

18 teams -2 conferences would suit - 25 games- play each team once and teams in your conference twice

When you go to 20 teams divisions - 4 divisions of 5 teams - 23 games- play each team once and teams in your division twice

I don't think the league could have more than 20 teams though -some will say 18 is the maximum

I don’t agree there is some magical number limit the competition can’t grow bigger than.

Sure, in the next ten years the limit could be 18. In the 15 years after that the limit could be around 20. But 15-30 years after that? Who knows.

I agree, there is no reason if revenue and profits continue to roll in. The only limit will be markets large enough to sustain the cost of a professional team full-time.

Hope it’s NZ2 in the form of a stand-alone Christchurch team and not some South Island/southern team including Wellington.

christchurch bulls playing the majority of their games out of the new stadium with 1-2 games a season played in Dunedin or maybe even nelson and invercargill.

New Zealand gets a genuine north v south and intercity rivalry.

I wouldn’t mind the South Island whatevers & the Warriors to change name to North Island Warriors.
