Predictions 2008

Likely developments in 2008.

Front runners - 2 big threats.
Nth Qld - less injuries and JT/Bowen factor.
Storm - one to beat.
Broncos - Lockyer's return plus some good young guns coming through.
Rabbitohs - will build on 2007 and be a force in 08. New signings will boost performance. Looking for a big 08 for Souths.

Flops
Manly - atrocious GF effort will haunt the club for years to come. Monnas leaving is a huge blow. Beaver/Bell getting on a bit. Lyon at 5/8 doesn't work. Storm proved how far off the pace Manly are.
Titans - after a predictable first up rush, they showed there's not much there. Wooden spoon candidates.
St George - so much talent, so little return. Gaz's return may spark something but wouldn't be confident about a big year for the saints.

Grand final - Melbourne/Cowboys/Souths
Woode spoon - Penrith, Titans
SOO - NSW (with Bellamy in charge)

Bit early for all that, isn't it?

Misty's early bird call - watch the Warriors and Panthers.

08 will be Brown's last season as coach of the drags. Daniel Anderson to be signed late 08, by august.

OK Johnsy, I'll take that.

I'm assembling my 2008 predictions, so it will sit nicely with the Brett Finch 2008 Clive Churchill Medal Prediction

Mate of mine has had $50 on Manly to win the spoon at 80-1.
He reckons with BK gone, they're a bit thin on for grunt plus very little depth - already Matai, Orford, Beaver in trouble.

Bless.

I just cannot see Browny (as much as I love the guy) making it through the entire year. I hope Anderson is the man we get to take over. I think he would do well as the new man to direct the big red V.

From all reports, Browny is a lovely bloke, a great club man, a bit like Albert Young was in a similar position.

Hasn't got the mongrel in him to win comps. That doesn't mean he isn't a huge asset to have at a club.

The NRL will be pilloried by graphic designers around the world for their pisspoor attempt at a "logo" for the new Toyota Cup NYC.

Dance around the issue - but Manly's performance backed up what i was saying all year - with the refs behind them at Brookvale, they will obviously go OK. But, in the big game, with referees in the spotlight, Manly were sown up for what they are. And, with Monnas gone, next year will be a terrible year for Manly.

PS - my mate also had a sh*tload on the Storm to win in January.

My Top 5 fearless predictions:

1. Melbourne won't finish any better.
2. Penrith won't finish any worse.
3. Eight teams will make the finals.
4. Souths will either finish in the Top 8 or miss out.
5. RL in Australia will turn 100.

There you have it.

Storm to go close to back to back.
Almost completely different top eight.

Storm will finish 2nd or third, Manly similar and someone out of the Eels, Cowboys, Warriors will finish minor premiers. The Rabbitohs will be in the top 8.

I think that some of teams will fall away like the Panthers, Knights and Dragons did this year and these clubs will improve to be on the fringe of the 8.

melbourne were always going to win the GF, any team would have lost to them even if they might not put in such a bad display as manly, beaver is "getting on" but he's still a better backrower than 90% going around the NRL, ill give you bell he didnt show much thuis year i dont know how he made origin, everyone said kennedy leaving would be a big blow and manly wouldnt make the 8 but they were way, way off...perhaps monnas imparted some of his knowledge to ballin this season like BK did for watmough perhaps waiting to see how they go would be better than assuming the worst....meh at lyon at 5/8 dont care manly won more games with him there then they lost so i dont care if he stays there or moves to centre

i agree with dragons, not the titans they will push for the 8, souths will push for the 8 aswell but not as good as you are making out, brisbane might sturggle with all the players they lost or they may not we'll see

The Dragons will make the 8 next year, so Browny will be safe.
