Monty Betham that's a bad move IMO he has pat it as far as im concerned, In my full strength Warriors 17 there is no place for Monty.

like Price said, Monty is a well respected player...he plays around 60-70 mins and is a tackling machine

Good move by the warriors, it had to be either Price or Wiki. Price is probably the better "talker" of the 2 and has more than enough experience with the media.

Congrats to Steve Price on getting the captaincy spot for the Warriors. I was thinking the captaincy would run along the lines of Price - Captain and Wiki - Vice Captain or Vice Versa. But the captaincy roles now is good enough for them.

New Zealand Warriors have officially announced new Aussie import Steven Price as the Warriors Captain for the 2005 NRL season.

Price, who boasts a record of 222 NRL games for the Bulldogs, 4 tests for Australia and 16 State of Origin matches for Queensland, was humbled by the announcement tonight but look forward to the challenge ahead of him.

Price said one of his main focuses will be on building a good relationship with the referee's and work hard on the teams discipline which was left wanting in 2004.

The decision was only a two horse race between Price and Kiwis Captain Ruben Wiki, with the Warriors spoilt for choice.

Price said there was "unbelievable" respect for Wiki among the Warriors, especially among younger players who followed his glory days with the Raiders.

In other announcements, former Warriors captain Monty Betham who stood down at the end of this season, has been named vice captain ahead of Wiki.

I think that the player who will do best out of all this is the man that has been forgoten one Stacey Jones.

Every man is allowed one poor season maybe Stacey is ready to stepup again and dominate the National Rugby League.

Congrats to Steve Price... I see Ruben being somewhat of a 'club captain' as he was at the Raiders in which he acts as someone the young fellas can go to.

Even without the (c) next to his name he will fire up everyone in that team. As will Price, but by different means.

to me between price and wiki they will both do the same thing except price will have the (c) next to his name.

Jones never really wanted the captaincy. With the pressure off him and a proper off season to get himself into shape I think he'll be a new man in 2005.

The right move for the NZ Warriors who are looking to earn some respect in 2005. Steve Price IMO is one of the great modern day club captains standing along side Brad Fittler, Geoff Toovey, Allan Langer, Mal Meninga etc. and he was for mine the only choice despite having the NZ test captain on board as well.

As thickos said, I see Wiki as more of a club captain though I am certain he will be another on field leader as will Stacey Jones.

Good things for the Warriors in 2005 IMO, I see a likely return to the top 8 on the back of a very good looking forward pack and a injury free Stacey Jones.

Price is a great captain, he is a smart captian, plus Wiki comands such respect in NZ that he doesnt need the (c), as Thickos said, he will no doubt be the lead by example club captain type he was with canberra

the best of both worlds

Stacey Jones should of been captain....bad move in my opinion #-o

Driver......for the umpteenth time. Stacey Jones does not want
the captaincy. Pricey is absolutely the right bloke for the role.

No suprise that Price is captain...that was more than likely the plan for hi the whole time the Warriors were trying to get him.

Good move for mine. Price will obviously take Betham under his wing and help him become a better captain for the Warriors then he was, once Price completes his 3 year deal. Betham's a very, very determined young man and very loyal to the Warriors cause - speaking to them after the grand final of 2002, he is the most hungry bloke you would meet in terms of yearning for success for his team-mates.

Ruben Wiki doesn't need any honours to lead, he's like a God to those Warriors players, just seeing him there in the battle lines with them will be enough to inspire them.
