So Mal Meninga the coach that couldn't win a chook raffle without Michael Hagan telling him what to do has the nerve to criticize other coaches

Coaching a team containing Slater, Hodges, Lockyer, Thurston, Smith and co wouldn't be easy.
I doubt even the great John Buchanan could do it.

OK I definately won't be renewing my membership next year. This club obviously has not intention of winning a comp soon which is sad. Their standards are low. 3 wins and he gets a contract? If that is the case then why not re-sign Soward? Is he to blame?

Roosters coach 7 games in and totally outclassed Price 33+ games.

I am deadset devastated with this announcement. Surely they don't think he is capable of winning an NRL comp, they are just happy to plod along mid table.

Saints will be favourites for wooden spoon again next season. Great. I can't understand the rush to make a decision on the coach by round 7? If the get flogged like they did today in the next couple of weeks it will be marked down as the worst decision in history.
CRAP, ABSOLUTE CRAP.

Cheers Lancelot:crazy:

So when are Manly and Melbourne going to go through their struggling cycle? We were a great team. Players retired or went to other teams for more cash. What did we do? Not much. We either replaced them with mediocre players or relied on young talent. Now we are complaining because no one wants to come to us. Had we pulled our finger out earlier we wouldn't be relying on a 30 something old hooker playing half back and a 5/8 who seems to have no ideas. Sorry for the rant, but today was pathetic and I'm sad to see how far we have fallen

You make some valid points.

You're mostly right. However with the storm, they were able to keep bellamy, cronk, slater and smith, despite being punished for cheating the salary cap. It does piss me off though when people say we could do nothing about it because of the cap, despite the fact Manly continue to push on, even after losing Hasler.

Agree with your last sentence in particular.

We've won 3 of our last 4, have we not? Geez.
Hornby mentioned true believers in a speech sometime...
To those clowns already talking about throwing in their membership after a loss - good riddance

you keep harping on about people being negative after one loss... not sure where you have been the last 18 months gypsy??
but yesterday's performance was just the continuation of the rubbish Price has been dishing up since his appointment..
its not the loss thats the problem its the pathetic display on the field ..
- the attack was a rudderless ship
- the once brickwall defence under Bennett has all but dissappeared
- players in the team not up to first grade standard
- players on the field looking like they simply didnt know their roles or purpose for being out there

the effort is there, but even under 12's put in effort...

Look guys, give Price a go, who knows he may be a useless coach, but this year he has no cattle. With the exception of Flo & BMoz he has a f**ked backline. He has a 33 year old hooker come halfback, a 5/8 who makes Jeckyll & Hyde look normal, one old center another who couldn't run out of sight on a dark night and a winger playing defensively terrible at fullback. His only major off season buy is gone for the season. Yep he has a good forward pack, but at the end of the day you need to be able to threaten the line.

so what you are saying is there are still the same problems as what existed at the end of 2011...
poor backline, no right centre, zero attacking options, no half back, no structured attack...
i would have hoped at least some of the above would have been addressed since the end of 2011 ...

interesting post...
you are correct, Mal is an average coach, more of a man motivator i guess..
but at least he is smart enough to understand his limitations and bring in assistance where needed in order to ensure the team has success...

Perhaps Price needs to do the same?

My thoughts pretty much exactly, however if we can rush some other signings i.e. dugan and chase he would have a lot more to work with. I just don't see what other coaching options there are and I can only assume some players wanted to know who the coach was going to be so they could make up their minds about staying, coming or going.

Today was humiliating even though the Roosters are red hot. It's not often us Dragons fans get emarrassed by our teams performance but under Price it happens all too often.

Sea Eagles next week... ouch
We haven't seen our team blown away like that for a while. However the pleasing thing was we didn't throw in the towel,we were totally outclassed and we simply don't have the cattle.
We obviously need more new signings. They have blown away other teams this season and have seen teams like Parra just throw in the towel.
Their signings,SBW,Maloney and Jennings carved us up and we need to start recruiting ourselves, none of these average players which we have picked up lately eg.Matthews

So the Storm are good and won't go into a cycle of rebuilding because they retained Smith Cronk and Slater. Saints when Price took over a team that won the Grand Final and every other ciup of offer in 2010 retained BMoz, Nighty, Cooper, Soward, Hornby (now retired), Young (Now retired), Creagh, Beau Scott (Now Knights), Prior, Weyman, Hunt, Fein. 11 of the 15 that played in the Grand final and could not even make the 8? All he had to do was plug in some holes. These 11 guys were good enough in 2010 to win a comp what made them all off a sudden crap for Price to not have the cattle to win a comp?

We must have Price's relatives writing alot of these posts. Who else would honestly defend what we have witnessed.

We all saw how improtant a good coach is to a team when Bennett took over.

If Price can stay on it makes you wonder why Browny and Farrar go sacked when their records were much better than Prices and best of all they made the side play a better style of football. Especially Browny. DO you guys honestly feel Saints can beat teams like Manly, Souths, Storm or Roosters? And is teh excuse of "They are awesome teams and anyone would have lost" be acceptable?

With Browny every game was winnable. With this game that is definately not the case.

Roosters have Tupou, Scheck, Moa, Cordiner, Kennedy, etc who are all juniors and on good dollars hence why they can afford the Jennings and SBW's. They are not all bought from other clubs like the Dogs last season where 1-17 were bought except for Barba, Reynolds and Kasiano.

I'll second that,if you love the Dragons ,you love the team, support them,if the board f#*ks up then we hold them accountable.Sure dwindling memberships would hurt the club, but would also hurt the team,FFS liven up.

I'd actually blood young Runciman now as well......He can't be any worse than Stanley who is Teririble.. At least the kid knows how to score tries.
The under 20's had 50 put on them, and the bulk of those points were down his edge. I rate Runciman but I wouldnt be rewarding him after that performance

The deficiencies in our current roster were shown up for all to see last night. Roosters too fast, too slick and just way too good.

The Roosters might have have bought their 3 superstars, but they have a number of their juniors making contributions as well. Their two wingers, Cordner, Moa, Kennedy. It's essentially a new team as well with a new coach so it's impressive they are performing so well.

At least it seems we have recognised we can't compete the way we are and we are making good progress for 2014. Widdop, Thompson with the possibilities of Chase, Dugan and Mateo is a good start. I'll reserve my judgement of Price when he actually does have the cattle to work with.

I agree, I don't think Bellamy, Bennett or even Jesus can perform a miracle with this lot. St George was smart to only extend Price's contract by one season only. Now that he has the players he wants he has a year to prove himself

unfortunately the lack of quality cattle you have mentioned is Price's doing...
this is the list of players he has signed the last 2 seasons:

Chase Stanley - rubbish
Daniel Vidot - discipline issues
Josh Miller - rubbish
Leason Ah Mau - rubbish
Vea - rubbish
Latimore - good backup but then we let him leave
Will matthews - average
Denan Kemp - rubbish
Peter Cronin - rubbish
Beale - pea heart to replace pea heart Moltzen
Frizzell (decent)
Drinkwater - potential
Harrison - rubbish
Henderson - rubbish

so 14 players and only about 2 or 3 of first grade quality...

Yep....it's a pretty uninspiring list for sure. Add to that our 3 top rookies (Kyle, King and De Belin) haven't really kicked on (or are injured), it's pretty easy to see where we are.

Maloney, SBW and Jennings were outstanding last night and it's no surprise they have transformed their team.

But in fairness, we did chase Cronk, Jennings and Bellamy and we are still in the market to sign a few more big names in addition to Widdop and Thompson. So its not like we're not trying.

its quite possible that with a decent coach some of those "near misses" in recrtuitment could have been actual signings..
Its obvious now that the board put all the eggs in one basket with Bellamy and when they didnt get him they had no plan B, resulting in signing Price for another season.
Perhaps the board were too cocky thinking Bellamy was a done deal, after they had success landing Bennett? (even though Bennett approached them)

surely they should have put some feelers out to Tony Smith and Daniel Anderson at the least..
