I just wanted to shout out a congratulations to Luke Priddis who will play his 300th first grade game this weekend.

the first hooker to do so.

its an amazing effort in my opinion and since he has been filling in for Fein i really think he has done very well, playing to almost the best i think he can.

Hopefully he can keep his form up and get a little fitter and improve his speed by a yard or so thru out the seaon...

Well done mate!!!

I love the dash from dummy half and pass to Nighty on Friday.

Congrats and well done. Hope he celebrates it with a victory, I'll be there to help cheer him on!

He's doing well. Certain erudite forumites (namely, me) were adamant he was past it but he has proven those windbag armchair experts (namely, me) quite wrong. Was fantastic on Friday night. I might identify a couple of reasons for his good form:

the obvious ones...
- better off-season. He's stated himself he moved from Penrith to the Gong which no doubt has helped
- recovery from that knee injury. Generally takes 18 months to get back to peak fitness, he's at that timeframe

what I reckon:
- the simplified role has given him confidence. In round 2 his role was simply to provide crisp, quick service. He's done that and over the ensuing weeks his confidence has grown and he's added more to the role
- no competition for his spot. Last year he was in a three and four way fight for a spot with Young, Head, and Fien, which appeared to make him force his hand, or have some kind of presence when he was out there. This manifested in poor options, badly timed dummy half darts and all round bad play. This season the spot is virtually all his, he looks relaxed, is picking his options and his times much more carefully and looks a million bucks better as a result.

I would've been happy to see him retire last year, but now I'm happier he didn't. We're lucky to have him

I was critical of Priddis too in 2009 and thought he was way past it.

He has had a definite and positive impact in attack in 2010 and it is obvious and has been rewarded for the changes he implemented in the offseason.

When you look at his career, he is one guy who certainly deserves to play 300 first grade games. Congratulations to him.

He's always been a very good player, a player I always liked at the Panthers. He's doing for us now what he did very well year after year at the Panthers. Getting on a bit now ofcourse but still shows he has what it takes, given the opportunity. He is a specialist hooker with a ton of experience and is a great asset for the club. In my book most dragons fans have very much undrated him. 300 games is a magnificent achievement.

Priddis is superstar hooker, i would say he is better than Smith to be honest. He experienced final series while playing for Panthers years ago and won one premiers in 2005???

He doing it for us as replacement for Fein but seriously its a clone!

The effort was there for this post, just lacking execution

He's won two premierships -

2000 with Brisbane.

2003 with Penrith. Won the Clive Churchill medal.

Going great guns. We are much more fuent when he is on the park.

Congrats Priddo. Long way from the ACT / Monaro Under 16's bench (his old man was the coach from memory) in 1993 to 300 First Grade games in 2010.

I will gladly admit he proved me wrong when I bagged him after Fien's injury. We might see him play 80 minutes this week so that Young can play a full game in the back row with the club doing it tough for forwards for the next few weeks.

I think he proved nearly everyone wrong.

Can hardly blame us though. Some of his passes from dummy-half last season were dreadful.

Priddis thrilled to be back on deck

Dragons hooker Luke Priddis will wear his heart on his sleeve in his 300th career game, but yesterday he revealed it was nearly broken the day Wayne Bennett told him to retire.
Priddis will reach the major milestone when the Dragons clash with the Gold Coast Titans at Skilled Park on Friday night, with both teams wearing blue armbands to support autism, a condition suffered by his eight-year-old son Cooper.
But joining the 300 club almost never happened after an offseason meeting with Bennett, who advised him to hang up the boots, had left him shattered.
"I'd probably be lying if I said there wasn't," Priddis said when asked if he had bitter feelings about Bennett's call to retire.
"At the end of the day he's the coach and his career is based on making those hard decisions as well.
"Telling me to retire wouldn't have been the first time he's done that, he tapped Wendell (Sailor) on the shoulder as well."
While Sailor called time on his illustrious career, Priddis was eager to make amends this season after languishing with NSW Cup feeder club Shellharbour last year.
His NRL opportunity came earlier than expected, when New Zealand international and Dragons first-choice hooker Nathan Fien was injured in the opening round.
And Priddis has seized the chance, playing the past five games to reach 300, including a starring role in St George Illawarra's triumph over Brisbane at WIN Stadium on Friday.
As he prepares for the battle against the Gold Coast, Priddis admitted he had seriously questioned if his remarkable career revival was possible.
"You do get those doubts in the back of your head," he said.
"When you've got a coach like Wayne telling you he doesn't think that you're up to it, the little man on your shoulder starts thinking about it."
Priddis rates his two premierships as career highlights, winning the first with Bennett at Brisbane in 2000, before he was released by the master coach at the end of the following season.
His second came with Penrith in 2003.
Turning 33 today, Priddis admitted the chance to raise money and awareness for autism made Friday's occasion extra special.
"April is world autism awareness month and it's no secret that (Gold Coast centre) Matty Rogers' young fella has autism, so that fits in as well," he said.
"Other (charitable causes like) breast cancer get a lot of publicity, but autism falls down the bottom a little bit.
"So if this promotion can raise awareness a little bit, not only in NSW and Queensland, but across Australia, then we can hold our heads high."
Priddis is at present holding his high enough that he is determined to keep the No 9 jersey even if Fien returns to full fitness later in the season, as the Dragons pursue their second straight minor premiership.
He even hinted that this year may not be his swansong.
"Whether this is my last year or not I haven't quite decided yet," he said.
"I've got to 300, but I'd like to keep pushing to 320 if I can keep playing well and it would be great to finish off with the fairytale (premiership), but we've got the Gold Coast this week and we'll need to put in a good performance."
