Promotion of Rugby League

It does my head in that people get excited over Union...

Fox Sports News did it tough to come up with a minute of highlights to show of Aus - Irl...

About all they could manage was Cooper running 5 metres through a gap and throwing a pass two metres forward and over the side line...

Because contrary to popular belief on this forum, some people actually like rugby and travel half way around the world to watch their team play and don't mind shelling out $200 for a ticket and $7.50 for a beer.

Yeah it's the whole carnival atmosphere. Even though teams are getting thrashed or the games might be boring, the whole situation is like the Soccer World Cup & Olympics. Seeing people from many different countries & cultures just enjoying themselves is a good thing.

One of the main reasons League has poor promotion is that the our central organizations are hobbled by the power of the clubs. The clubs have only their own interests at heart and remain happy to squabble over the scraps. This lack of a united front has left us easy pickings for the broadcasters. We should own our own sport and its destiny, but sadly we don't.

Also to really get into the next sphere we need to have a Int game that is taken seriously. With only 3 competitive countries it is always going to be a struggle but until country comes before SOO and club football we are always going to miss out on the opportunity to see the likes of Benji Marshall and Cameron Smith become household names.

We are a few weeks from what should be a great 4nations and I haven't heard a single word said about the Kangaroos, Kiwis or team selection from commentators or media.

True but I can guarantee if you listen to Super15, Aleague or any other codes games they are already talking about potential selections and hyping up the Int contests to come during the season and into the finals, the same way we do for SOO from Feb-May. For example the BlairvStewart fight would have led to a discussion about them meeting again in the 4nations in other sports. In ours we ignore the Int game until the week it is on. It is just reflective of the lack of focus on the Int game, especially in Australia.

I have heard both Ch 9 and Fox Sports talking about individual players potential selections for the 'Four Nations tour of England and Wales'.

Perhaps if those who run our game actually promoted the game itself and the concept of attending games things might improve.
At the moment a large part of the promotion is TV stations encouraging us to watch the game on TV or newspapers which alternate between dogging the game and vaccuous hype.
The game needs to take control of it's own destiny rather than leaving it to the spankers at Nein and News

Bollocks if I want to see Ireland v Australia kick for goals then I would of watched Gaelic Football or Aussie Rules or the Hybrid shite.
I want to see tries.

Really? Which was the better game? Broncos vs Warriors or Broncos vs Dragons?

Thought the Union was a good game. Very tense at the end.

Some of the games have been a bit rubbish, but you can't pretend that doesn't happen in league.

I thought the hyped up Bronco's and Dragon's was pretty average
