I think McQueen is now suffering from the "Maguire Rein-in Syndrome."

He's been told to play a typical forward's game & hence his attacking game has"gone to Gowings."It's a bloody shame as he can be the dynamic type that a team needs to break a game open!

I think the Burgess boys are starting to feel the pinch of carrying a huge load now without the toughness of Sam & Teo to aid the cause---Tom particularly.

Tyrrell is the perfect Maguire clone & that's why he holds his place----head down,arse up,don't pass,& don't try a darn thing for fear of error--he's a robot--from a big,speedy winger to a robotic prop!!

Sad isn't it, all free flowing football drummed out of em so they can play 'mistake free football'.

It's bloody boring, I am so glad the Ashes start this week.

Well the ironic thing is that we aren't playing mistake free football. On the whole our completion rate and discipline this season have been unacceptable. All this talk about playing free flowing football is outdated. Everything in today's game is structured and planned out - not just with us but is most teams going around. How many teams can you honestly name that play free flowing football and without structure? The obvious examples are Penrith and the Warriors and look how they have fared this season.

I'm not so concern with playing unstructured footy as I am with eradicating penalties and handling errors from out game. In saying that, credit has to go to the teams that we are playing. Being premiers is a horrendous position to be in because every team in the comp, no matter where they are on the table, is going to lift and play out of their skin. That is part of the reason why no team has gone back to back since Brisbane in 1992-1993.

Any team that can develop a free flowing style with a degree of competence should run rings around the robots. These teams just need to persevere.

You're correct in saying that most teams play the same structured style,& that basically, is why the game is not very enjoyable to watch. The true game of RL is extinct;no doubt!!

I don't call it RL any more as it's evolved to something entirely different;& IMO for the worse.
I watch Sths out of loyalty but I very rarely watch any other match.
If I do watch a game other than Sths it will be the teams at the lower end of the table who have been forced into trying something different in the interests of making up points.Because of this they are taking risks;throwing the ball around; & scoring some spectacular tries.

TBH,I'd be just as happy to see Sths run 5th or 6th but make it there playing free-flowing,watchable "Rugby League."

Bring on the Ashes!!

If I'm Penrith coach I say to my team 'Souths will run four guys, one after the other, they won't pass the ball, so three or four of you guys jump on em' and slow the play the ball down and you got em beat' Game over, rugby league over.

7.30 pm Wednesday Australia v England. Traditional rivals, I wouldn't have any other way.

McQueen really hasn't been anything special since 2013. I can't remember the last time that I saw him leaping up to catch a high ball and score a try or get on the outside of someone and make a break down field. The Chris McQueen of 2012-2013 was one of the most dynamic back rowers in the competition with one of the most unique skill sets. This year, he plays one good game in every five and the rest are rubbish. I think he needs to be dropped.

The Burgess brothers haven't been bad this season but I don't think they are being used to effectively enough. Why do we not have them charging onto the ball close to the tryline like we have in previous seasons? Also, their biggest weakness is that they are as uncoordinated as hell! It has always been their weakness; even Sam had a tendency to drop the footy a bit! Tom's effort in playing the ball on Friday night almost gave me a heart attack! Both twins need to work on simply catching balls.

Tyrell is doing the best that he can! The poor bugger always seems to get smashed or concussed. He never complains though and gets on with the job. He is a workman like prop. I think he does a good job. I remember at the start of the season, Michael Hagan came out and said that he thought David was on the verge of representative honours should anything happen to Queensland's front rowers. I still think he is good enough to play for QLD. My one criticism of his game is that I would like to see him run the ball more; his carries are good, he just needs to do it a bit more often to take his game to the next level.

I completely agree with all of that.

I don't recall ever saying Johnston is a great winger.

I would say, at this very early stage of his career he shows a lot of promise.

He could pick up a serious injury and be gone tomorrow, fingers crossed he doesn't of course.

He's not great yet mate, he has only played one and an half seasons.

Yeah Johnston isn't great yet imo.

Johnston is a good winger and very good at getting to the try line due to his quick speed.

Johnston needs to work on his bomb catching and his defence plus bulking up more.

Mentally Johnston has to improve too this is an area he is struggling in.

The way they're playing isn't limiting errors either they are actually making more errors.

If they could play their own game to some extent and throw the ball around/offload we would probably make less errors and be more dangerous in attack and it would be better to watch.

The defense knows what the Souths forwards are going to do, they will run the ball real hard straight at them without passing it, does Eddy Pettibourne spring to mind.

No wonder they keep getting belted.

I think its a legitimate criticism of Maguire, he is extremely conservative, it is very very difficult for him to adopt new strategy, that is, a new way of playing an eighty minute football game.

I occasionally watch the Eels play because I love watching Chris SANDOW play when he's off the leash.

He's trying something different for the duration of the match.

He'll make some clangers but he will also come out with stuff that will make you sit back in awe of his skill.Personally,I'd prefer watching brilliant players in action freely using their magnificent skills than the arse up,structured shit that has ruined the game as a spectacle.

they were passing it out more at the start of the season and they looked good. they look like they are playing with no confidence. hopefully they turn it around after the bye - i think they can

Cody WALKER again BOG for the Bears in their 34 all draw with the Mounties.

Does he now have to kiss Madge's bum first to get a go at 5/8??

I'd like to see Madge drop a few players to reserve grade and give the likes of Walker a go as a way of eliminating complacency. I think one of the reasons why we have been poor this season is because players are able to switch off without any fear of being dropped to reserve grade. I can remember, Wayne Bennett doing it in the early 90s with Brisbane - one game I remember was around 1992 and he dropped 4-5 regular first graders from his star studded line up because of the way they performed the previous week. I think Madge needs to do the same to instill a little bit of fear in the squad and to let them know that performances like the one on the weekend will not be tolerated.
