after the charity shield I admit I was downcast about this seasons prospects but from the first two rounds I am happy with the attack from the dragons.

Not saying we will win the comp or even make the finals but I do see progress :)

I remember last season we even struggled to score 12 points against the bottom sides so even tho we have scored over 30 against both warriors and tigers shows we have made progress since 2013.

And Tigers smashed Titans so that must say something about our defense. Ok early days still but at least good signs, as a Dragons fan over last few years always nervous about how we'll go on game day. Power of positive attitude and confidence , team spirit can make a huge difference.

The tigers were better today and the Titans were terrible. I think I picked them as wooden spoon contenders on one of ladder predictions about a month ago. Still good signs in the way we have defended and backed up

Didn't mean to sound negative but McGregor and Young surely must be given credit. It was all doom and gloom when Mary and Young got promoted but they do appear to have made some impact which not many predicted. Both were fantastic players so it does not surprise me and is good to see.

there is "getting overly excited about two wins"...

and then there is this...:?

Got back last night from Auckland. After meeting the players after the game it is clear we have a great bunch of guys representing our club, and great spirit which is showing on the field.
It's early days and not getting carried away but that 2nd half display reminded me of the Bennett era where our guys trusted each other in defence and worked hard for each other. The silence from the Warriors crowd was deafening as we put the cleaners through them.
Spoke to Pricey also and he too was happy the way the players worked for each other, and you can see why the players respect him as he is a genuinely top bloke.
The signs are there, the attitude of the players is there and they also weren't getting carried away from what I could see.We have a reason to feel good about this season.

we played 2 pathetic teams ill judge how well this season is against easts manly and melbourne and of course canberra

Judge, you hope we get smashed against those teams. You should be ashamed to call yourself a Dragons fan,if you really are one.
I am ashamed to have 'fans' like you supporting my club that's for sure.

My personal opinion is that Price has the ability to coach. He has spent some time in the lower grades with some success, he was assistant to Bennett who recommended him for the position, and by all accounts the players like him and the board are supporting him. All positives.

I also believe Price has been limited by his roster over the last couple of years. A few reasons for that are:

  1. Older squad wanting to move on - we have off loaded and lost alot of players over the past 2 years. A fair amount of upheaval which would make it difficult for any coach
  2. A game plan involving attack - we saw the fallout from this through the Soward situation. I don't know the facts but I would assume Prices game plan involved taking the ball to the line and creating opportunities through the halves (which I believe we are starting to see now). Many players coming through from the Bennett period were of the defensive state of mind and turning that around would have been a massive effort
  3. Limited depth in key positions - the halves were the big fail in this area. Price persisted with Fein and whoever else because we had nothing else. Based on the actions of the club it would appear Drinkwater had disciplinary issues and Seijka injured himself in his first game in the Cutters. All other valid options were already in first grade. I think he did the best he could with what he had to work with.
  4. Subdued recruitment - when we had the opportunity to recruit well we didn't or were too late. And by all accounts it seems Price was left out of this process. Not something you can blame him for.

Having said all that, I think we still have a long way to go. All I wanted to see in the opening rounds was some improvement. And we are definitely seeing that.

At this early stage based on the games so far, I don't expect us to win the comp or even beat the top teams. But given we have a relatively 'easy' first 4 games (ie not playing any teams that are expected to be in the top 8), we should at least be able to use these games to work on key areas of our game and start to get some of those combos gelling. And again, we saw that on the weekend with our defense. Although the warriors were not on their game, we saw that we could actually combine good defense with good attack and come out on top.

To add to that we have some players to come back (Stockwell, de Belin, Dugan, Witt etc) which only improves our outlook.

For me it is too early to get all excited. Price still needs to prove himself and the team still needs work, but at this stage the signs are positive for the future - if not this year then next year I see a team to be reckoned with. Lets hope we can keep these confidence levels high and keep improving over the next few weeks.

Is there not even an ounce of happiness or hope from these last 2 wins from you Dino? Surely as a Dragons fan you at least enjoyed seeing us score some points?

None of us are actually predicting us to win the premiership after beating the Tigers and the Warriors, but after the charity shield and after some ugly predictions of us likely to have an 0 and 6 start and favourites for the spoon, it is just nice to give some credit where it is due. It has been great watching us finally score some points and play some attractive league. Sure, the real tests start soon when we play the highly rated teams in the Storm, Roosters and the Rabbits again. The Raiders, well, even in our premiership year we still lost to those guys but it would be nice to get over them.

It seems to me that:
Mary is doing a good job with the backs.
Young has improved the forwards who are now playing as a pack.
Price has re-visited the Bennett 'brick wall defence' system. Discipline still needs improvement.
Because of all of the above, the players are feeling a lot more confident individually and as a team.

Well done to coaching staff and players, keep up the good work!

You're taking the wins very hard.

Chin up mate.

Yes they may be CUT PRICE "Steven Bradbury" wins of little value but bear up.

Actually the win against the Tigers doesn't look too bad in retrospect :sarcasm: and from all reports, the Warriors played much better against us than they did against Parramatta.

Good luck to our beleaguered coach
Hope he's still amazing us in Rd 26 and beyond and many of us are looking for a bigger spatula every week.

Gareth Widdop for Dally M!

Great to here. Hope the trip was good even with the cyclone.

At 6.00am it was pissing down horizontal and thought it was going to be one of those days. But at game time the wind was the only factor and was glad we had it in the 2nd half ,it only started to drizzle late in the game.
