For our pleasure he executed this "tour de force" - a conversion from the corner post....and this was done 7 out of 10 times. Not a player in the world has had at the same time his ease, his power, his precision, his instinct and his subtlety.

My dad watched him when the French were in NZ. He said when he lined up a conversion near the sideline the trainer would run on a lit cigarette for him.

Auberts philosophy on fullback play was that there was 12 players in front of him on the field and he wasn't there to tackle.

Oh for the golden age of rugby league....
