PULETUA TO REMAIN A PANTHER

Mar 16 - Tony Puletua has agreed to stay with Penrith until at least the end of 2009.

“I am delighted that Tony has agreed to re-sign with us,” Penrith Rugby League General Manager Mick Leary said tonight.

“Once again he has proven his loyalty to the club.” Mick was referring to the fact that in a previous round of contract talks, Tony accepted a pay cut because of his loyalty to Penrith.

Tony is one of the most exciting second rowers in the game and a Kiwi international.

“We are hopeful of having him spend the rest of his career at Penrith,” Mick said.

On Tuesday night, Craig Gower and Luke Rooney put pen to paper after having earlier agreed to remain with the club. Craig has re-signed for five years and Luke for three.

Asked why he had agreed to stay with Penrith, Tony said: “It’s where I started. The club has done a lot for me and I am happy here.

“I would like to finish my career at Penrith.”

Mick said he had no further news on Preston Campbell, who is the last major player coming off contract at the end of this season. “I am now able to fully concentrate on Preston,” he said.

The Panthers are setting themselves up quite nicely.

Now just gotta strike up something with Campbell...

Who's Tui? I'm guessing their brother who doesn't play footy? I think Frank is older than Tony.

I've got a feeling there going to have to put a clause in Campbell's contract stating he can go to the GC if they gain admission for him to resign with the Panthers, for anything longer than a 1 year deal anyway.

that was the contract offered, 3 year contract, 1 year, then 2 year option. Lang didn't want that. I agree in a sense. but Peter Wallace will have a year to adjust and he can do big things when he'll get a shot.

Well done Tony!

Now for Presto!

I think a 2 year contract with a "Get out" clause if the Dolphins are admitted to the N.R.L. should be drawn up for Presto. Failing that, a 1 year contract.

We want Presto to play for us for at least one more season so we can skill someone else up to take his place if the Dolphins are given the green light, and I don't want panthers management to pressure him into a 3 year deal with no "get out clause"

Pressure=Preston walks early.

Panthers management may want to ensure they dont stuff around and preston ends up taking a 1 or 2 year deal elsewhere eg souths. They will then be left with no one established for next year.
On a lighter note i thought it hilarious in the article today in the tele that with the signing of the contract tonys putting the squeeze on the panthers honchos to resign frank to a long term deal
Frank will be lucky to get a one year deal without little bros help

Its good to see these Panthers players and their managers going about their business with some class.

Unlike the wh*ring of other players we've recently seen in the media.

Penrith have done a great job securing their most important players over recent seasons and the club must be comended for that.
