QF 1 VS Parramatta

My only concern is when To'o. who presumably is marking Sivo. comes off his wing leaving a clear run for Sivo to get to try line.

Against both the Eels and Rabbits recently, we were so compressed in defence that we were daring them to try and go around us. Both wings standing up to 20m in field for most of each set of six. Obviously defending our try line we need to be marking up man to man on the edges though. Having our usual combinations back will help with that.

Going through the hands is risky - and if we can force errors or intercepts early, they will stop shifting fast and wide.

Eels are tricky though, because they offload through the middle too. I wouldn't mind seeing us tackling guys like Paulo around the legs to just drop him. Eliminate the late standing offload altogether. We might give up a few quick play the balls on the back of it - but it will force them to either pass before the line, or just tuck it under the arm and roll with it

I have no idea how Friday night is likely to go.

Too much analysis, statistical or otherwise, just does my head in I just think we have to be the better team on the night, convert our opportunities and hopefully finish in front on the scoreboard after 80 minutes, or even golden point.

Our best v their best has us winning. The only question is will Nathan and Luai be able to perform after so long out

Perhaps, hope so, but it is about delivering your best and there are question marks around the lack of footy from Nathan and Jerome. It is not ideal, it really isn’t.

At the same time it is not just about the halves, they get so much attacking impetus from there off loads and that is something we need to shut down.

Api's the key for me. We'll need him to be on if Nath and Luai are a bit rusty. His elusive runs out of dummy half are perfectly suited to slipping past Parra's big forwards.

I would prefer a different first round opponent, but I do think we get them. At home, big crowd, the sting of having lost to them twice in regular season and we'll just have a bit more juice in the tank with our easier run in. We're the more consistent and flexible team, which will be the difference in the third matchup we have against them this year.

Got myself (and few Parra family fans) a spot in the eastern terraces so I'm pumped! A full Penrith Park is the best place in the world to watch sport.

When he has played the last few weeks Api has been a terror through the middle, if he can get off a couple good early runs it will be massive for us. In fact if we have Api and Luai running the ball I will be confident, Nathan always tests the line a bit but if Api and Jarome are running a lot its because they are seeing gaps and they have the running game to really put the defence at sixes and sevens. If we can do that Nathan and Yeo will get the ball to where it needs to go on the next plays.

Generally though the game plan should be to do everything we can to limit Parra's momentum and good attacking chances, they can get a head of steam up quick and score in bunches but if we kick well and not give them piggy backs I think their defence can be a bit suspect. Even with 12 men in the second half last time we played we were able to create a number of linebreaks and chances by keeping it simple and not giving away cheap field position. That half should be our blueprint, no cheap penalties, kick early into corners if possible and attack them down edges after quick play the balls.

I don't think it will be close at all. I see a blow. A slow early grind where Panthers get an 8-0 lead then a late explosion once ebreak their backs. 26-0
Penrith line speed will be too much I feel for the Eels to handle.

I see a Panthers vs Storm GF. Anyone know what odds this is?

Storm should blast Raiders. After that they have Eels and probably Sharks. I think they win all 3.

Things on paper to an extent stop to matter if the game gets tiring enough. If we have the same hunger we did last year to defend we'll this comp again regardless of anything else.

IMO Matterson's the guy that's improved their atack. Ever since he moved to the middle Eels have got better. I'd be almost sure Arthur's only benched him to protect one of his most important players. Also easier to run at someone in the middle. A guy like Shaun Lane is the icing on the cake of their attack. Matterson's ball playing in the middle sets up a lot of their edge boys.

I mentioned a year or so ago that I would like to see lane in a Penrith jersey. He has still a year to go, so hopefully we are talking to his manager.

Too right. Cut us up in that last game. This time we will be ready.

It’s easy and convenient to play the underdog card .

Two fairly evenly matched sides, it could well be a blowout one way or the other but recent history suggests it will be a tight. close fought contest.

I hope we win obviously, I hope there is no controversy or questionable decisions more than anything else. I hope it is not decided by a sin binning or send off, no bunker howlers just hope the two sides decide the outcome.

If we can keep them scoreless early it gets a lot easier when Paulo and RCG have a break. They lose a lot of go forward and this is when we need to win the game. Quietly confident but not complacent. This time of the year is special and for those of us that had followed the Panthers during the bad times it brings a tear to your eye. Go Panthers !!!

Sportsbet have them at $3.10. Eels are underdogs.

I hope we win. I feel you guys would beat the Storm/Canberra the following week amd then take care of Sharks or Cowboys.
Not as confident Eels can. Id love to meet in the grand final.

Sportsbet odds mean nothing. I suspect there would be a lot of professional punters with no interest in either side who would be very happy to take $3-10 at the line or otherwise.
