Adelaide and Perth would be manufactured teams like Melbourne, but in all likelihood much less successful.
Just like in Melbourne, the vast majority of supporters and players would be imports from the eastern states, New Zealand, the Pacific Islands, and Northern England.
Melbourne have been in the comp for 26 years and how many NRL players have actually come from Victoria? Not fckn many. There's no reason to believe Adelaide and Perth, with their smaller populations, would be any different.
So what's the actual point of expanding to cities largely indifferent to rugby league? In 26 years, how has Melbourne benefited the NRL? There are no waves of Victorian juniors coming up through the ranks. Born and bred Victorians are not flocking to the games.
Melbourne been successful on the field due to Bellamy, money pumped in from News Ltd, and the odd bit of cheating. If Adelaide or Perth were admitted to the NRL, and didn't start winning comps, they'd die off. Again.
Focus on the heartlands first.
Bring back the Newtown Jets and the North Sydney Bears. Put a team on the Central Coast. A couple more from QLD and NZ. Maybe PNG. At least these places have a rugby league soul.
