Barry Dick had this to say...

THE people behind the Gold Coast bid for an NRL licence took a giant step last week when they gave up the Dolphins name but there is an even bigger hurdle to overcome – a suitable venue. There are two choices – spend a lot of money upgrading Carrara Stadium or spend a lot of money building a new stadium but either way, we're talking about a lot of moolah. Good luck extracting a buck from the State Government, which wants you to play out of Suncorp Stadium.

Our government gets a lot wrong and this would just be another one. To me, the ideal would be the GC playing marqee matches at Sandpit Stadium, the rest should be at the GC.

Barry Dick is a regular columnist up here but I can't vouch for the accuracy or otherwise of his claims.

A site at Robina has allready been approved, there is a quiet knowledge here that a Rugby League only Stadium will be built there, right on the Rail line.

The GC has just finished building a huge convention center, is in the process of finishing the Largest residental building in the world, 2 massive commercial towers have been built in Southport, and the Stadium is right on track.

People need to stop comparing the little town of the GC back 10 years ago, to the city of the GC that is has become.

BTW Central coast now, is what the GC was 10 years ago, they are not similar in any way now at all

Barry Dick is exactly that, a dick...

Not that i am trying to say that the reference to the GC isnt tru, but have you ever read the crap that is in that blokes columns, it's up there with Chris Bombalis in the rankings of "utter dickhead biased journos"

For christ sake he has a go at Gould for using the words offence and defence, saying its a "yank" word, what the F*ck are you supposed to say Mr Dick?

Excellent, if true. I'm with the school of thought that reckons you need a rail line to move crowds away from venues after games, something Gosford has in its favour, except the trains don't run when there's footy on, apparently. Access to Carrara was a disaster when I lived down there a few years ago, has it improved much?

There are some major road works going on at the moment on the Nerang Broadbeach road

After the trial games a traffic plan was put in place to allow vehicles to exit the precinct quickly. Worked well with over 17,000 people there

Barry Dick is an excellent reporter of League, he always sticks up for the code, and rarely has a negative article about it.
As for taking off Gould, I would say attack and defence, what is offence anyway, offence and defence, what is offence.

dick is very hit and miss
sometimes on the money
sometimes talking crap to fill column space you'd think

but hindy, i'd prefer attack and defence myself

the government hasn't made any commitments to a robina stadium [as yet?]
an election is not near, labour holds most of the seats in the area and would not want ron clarke to bask in any relfected glory, but who knows

The opposite of defence.
