Slater always was and always will be a far superior fullback to Boyd. And is in scintillating form. But meh, at least I can finally laugh at a Queensland selection decision.

I was laughing too.

Then I remembered that I would have Boyd or slater first picked for NSW if either was eligible.

They pick their second best fullback, and he is still the Aussie fullback who shits on ours.

Milford is a better chance of working than going down the DCE path when in reality we know what will happen in all likelihood there.

A ballpaying fullback is more important if Thurston is ruled out, Boyd is a lot better than Slater in that regard. Boyd was extremely good over the last year for QLD and for Australia in the 4 Nations, and the test match all playing fullback.

Wow you obviously cant move passed your Broncos bias. DCE has alot of reasons to be upset. Walters says he selects players with loyalty because theyve "been there done that", yet selects Milford who hasnt played a minute of Origin over someone who played numerous times off the bench and started. Defensively this year DCE has made more than double the tackles milf has and yet has half the amount missed tackles than Milf so far this year. Milf will be targeted and will found out very quickly... Plus if they run the same attacking structures and not let Milf play his natural game, like Mal has admitted he unfairly demanded of DCE when he was rushed in, he'll struggle to make any impact with the ball.
Secondly, Darius is very overrated attacking wise. He's a cat that wont cart the ball back and will disappear when the going gets tough. Slater on the other hand, always has a dig and puts his body in the line. Plus, despite playing many less games then Boyd, has scored more tries, has more try assists and more linebreak metres, and is almost equal in runs and run metres. If you want a "ball playing fullback" why choose Boyd - a defensive fullback?
Its the worse QLD team ive seen for years n I hope Thurston pulls a miracle or i fear we'll be in trouble.

DCE was pathetic when he got a starting spot. He was that bad I was hoping he was hooked after 30 minutes. No shock that the side played terribly with him at half. He seems to want to be the controlling half, as that is what he is used to. Milford is the opposite- he's used to having Ben Hunt as the controlling halfback for Brisbane. He will slot in and play 2nd fiddle to Cronk and concentrate on running the ball and using his speed. Look Milford wouldn't have been my selection but he's a better choice than DCE at least.

Boyd suits this side, having a 3rd "half" is important and Boyd sets up a lot of tries, and with Oates, etc outside him, that's what we need. We need a FB that is able to give the ball to his outside backs and set them up. It is always handy to have combinations, and Gillett, Milford (if playing), Oates, etc form a very potent side of the field. It is smart not changing a lot from last year where we won comfortably.

If you had a winger like Oates, yeah you'd look to feed him the ball. His pass to his wingers is a weapon, and is miles better than that of any other fullback in the game.

But against your point, he made a tough run against the Titans that resulted in a quick play the ball that got the Broncos back into the game, resulted in a try two tackles later. It was Karmichael Hunt-esque. This is actually a feature of Boyd's game that is better than Slater's (not saying he is, or will ever eclipse Slater's peak), who since his original knee surgeries has been prone to being physically bullied by the NSW pack on kick returns.

Further, if you think Boyd's a cat, he played on in round one with a pretty serious shoulder complaint, made lots of clutch tackles and defused kicks with Sharks players howling down on him. It was an inspiring captain's knock.

game 1 2014, DCE stepped in mid-game after taking hardly any reps as the right side half in training. he was always used as a utility before that.

game 2 2014, DCE had his own injury issues and hardly took any right side half reps in training again. hunt did the majority of it. QLD should've gone into the match with hunt starting who was developing combos and familiarity with the team as the organiser with thurston. it was the major blunder in the Meninga/Hagan reign.

the whole situation just ruined DCEs rep career. i'd take him in a heatbeat if he was available for NSW. and he's actually playing well too.

Another reason why Origin needs to be played over 3-4 weeks, with no club football in between.

nah......play it every 3 weekends like they play it every 3 wednesdays now. so you have the normal 10 to 11 rounds of NRL, then game 1 origin weekend, then 2 NRL weekends, then game 2 origin weekend, then 2 more NRL weekends, then game 3 origin weekend, then play the NRL rounds continuously up to the finals.

the word on why DCE was overlooked is because of his titans backflip, how he divided the old manly side and his want for total control steering a team (smith cronk etc against him)
