Charmed I’m sure. Did I not mention my own Maori heritage, which no doubt would go back several hundreds of years also? But then I’m not so self-obsessed as to base my entire identity on the fact, or use that fact to enhance any point of view I might have. But I agree with you about the general Oz attitude to race, as it happens. They are far less inclusive then NZ, which probably explains why a lot more kiwi born players have not defected to SoO and Oz to date. So from NZ’s point of view you should be happy. However NZ can be as equally backwards as OZ, I’m afraid to say. The venom directed at players who opt to play for Oz rather than NZ is embarrassing to witness (Hunt being a prime example) . There is really is no need to take such happenings as a personal affront. Makes NZ look like a nation of hillbillies. And you seem to be contradicting yourself when you claim these players of ‘polynesian whakapapa’ are all genuine local players. Then surely nightingale, hoffman and beale are all equally local players to Oz? The dishonest component in your argument is the assumption that players of this so called ‘polynesian whakapapa’ should naturally be playing for NZ, and not their PI of heritage.

Self-obsessed...
right - trying to educate a few aussies re: cultural understanding and its all about me.
I think you are taking my forum title ... a little too seriously..
it is a saying made famous by code 4 or 5 years ago.when I happened to join the forum

Its not a point of view that im enhancing its a fact... a link which the likes of these convicts dont understand...I should of known by the sheep reference your a kiwi.

Im not ... im referring to the statistic that a clear majority of nzs domestic players are polynesian..
They will naturally be a hub for polynesian rugby league and wider, Polyneisan culture and understanding.
We dont just fill up our top sides with island ringins...

the Junior warriors every players in their 32 man squad is of maori or polynesian other than Omar Slaimankhel.

Aussies cant complain that we rape and pilage pacific island league stocks.. when clearly they make up the majority of our players numbers in new zealand.

Infact naturally australians tend to label any islanders incorrectly as kiwis...

Yes, nightingale, hoffman and beale ... are local players to australia...
I wouldnt begrudge them one bit if they had committed to nsw and australia. Not at all. If they said they had always wanted to play for the Blues & The Kangaroos.

I would begrudge though if they had committed to nz ..publicly
and then changes their minds on the basis.. of money and advice from their manager.

Something which arguably Hunt...could be accused of.
So I do endorse the head hunting of Hunt... just like I will Tamou but I dont think the kiwis will get to play the City Origin team so that wont be an issue.

Perhaps just Sam Ayoub .. trying to increase his cut to help with the court cases.

Or perhaps NZ should take is as a compliment as it is now easier to make a origin pack than the kiwi test pack???

I never said Polynesian players should opt to play for NZ...
Infact I endorse fringe players or topline players committing to the pi nations. ...something australia are trying to encroach on

More that culturally the kiwis create a better enviroment... and naturally polynesian footballers will feel more at home.

I they are from Tonga etc or have aspirations to play for Tonga I encourage them. I hope Akuma Ta;ai and Konrad Hurrell play for tonga etc.

assumptions, assumptions, ... what was it Benny Hill said about assumptions?

Mate, I can assure I was born in, and raised in New Zealand, and I have no criminal convictions, at least as far as I can recall. So, are you even Maori then, or perhaps you're a Waori? So a few players with NZ heritage opt to play for Oz, what's the big deal? Why get so uptight over it? Perhaps it is you with the identity crisis? That might explain this 'polynesian whakapapa' bullsh!t you've been sprouting. The clear implication of which is that NZ is the 'natural' country for all polynesian league players. C'mon, who do you think you're kidding with this nonsense? You don't *really* hope hurrell plays for Tonga, you want him to choose the Kiwis, just as you want all the eligible Oz-based players to choose the kiwis. And when did hunt ever commit to the kiwis? I reckon you're full of it, mate.

what are you on mate ...
im clearly trying to take a swipe at some of the aussies.
If you are not aussie then do not take offense...

It is hard to debate ...im responding to much of the bs that has been written on this thread and many others like this which I can be bothered replying to individually.

That was in reply many posts which question NZs history of pulling PI players away from their nation of heritage..

I was stating a fact that over 80% of our local players in new zealand are polynesian...so yes naturally we are going to have a whole lot of players at the elite level - something peopel dont realise.

Auckland in particular would be the home of polynesian league..and would does foster growth for the pi nations. Many p.i immigrants or of pi heritage help foster rugby league in the islands. have a look at some of the people involved at grass roots.

And when looking at the Junior Warriors... the best team in nyc.. it looks like the trend is going to continue for the near future.

Ask the NRL who have recognised that and have enlisted many New Zealand Maori & Polynesian rugby league to acknowledge the lack of understanding of polynesians and their growing influence in the NRL..
Once again a fact and an intiative led by Vagana.

yes i am making assumptions that some are doing this for money...but when they say they want to play for Qld and not australia well..then I read that as Im doing this for money.

I read an article in a league mag... prior to him and stated that he is committed to nz and his mum would kill him otherwise.
I never heard him say I want to play for australia..

Yes... just like he moved for AFL for the challenge and not the money, and why he sneaked across to try the challenge of french rugby for a quick buck.

Off course that is moimoi motivation also..I dont support his selection either.. I wouldnt even pick on form anyway.(past couple of years)

Dont assume I want guys like Hurrell selected.
I would love to him to commit to tonga for life. ...NZ league fraterntity can still take some pleasure in seing his development... which is what league is about.

I respect the decisions of people to be able to make their own decisions.
Has Stuart and Ayoub respected Tamou initial decision?? clearly not
and clearly this has do with the big money and career opprotunities selection would entail.

The throwaway line by NSW media is the allure of playing in the greatest arena...
that is just a cop out line .....dont flatter yourself.

It can be argued the kiwis try to do the same.. but then I know the kiwis players
get paid jack shiat.. and do not do it for the money at all.

where are all these posts accusing NZ of poaching PI players? I can't see any, I have to say. There are a few posts pointing out the hypocrisy of NZers working themselves into a lather because a couple of NZ eligible players have been approached to play origin. But that's a fair enough cop I believe. In fact the main country which appears to be the focus of allegations is Oz, not NZ. So why are you so offended because a player decides to chose Oz over NZ?

Really?

.......I read that as "I want to play the sport at it's highest level"

ie: State of Origin.

Watching Dane Neilson at present it is hard to look past the form he's displaying right now. In fact I'd be almost tempted to shift Inglis out to the wing on the outside of Neilson.

He's an imperious defender, and he's displaying a terrific running game off the back of exquisite form of Cronk and Slater. Queensland would be foolish not to capitalise on the form of the Melbourne players this year.

Neilson pulled a hammy last night didnt he ?

Will Chambers then, both are in fantastic form. Honestly we are nuts to consider any other option. Tate is so slow it is not funny and Tonga's form has been diabolical.

A quick question who does Matt Duffie qualify for?

Duffie is from NZ..I like will chambers also, he'd do a good job. I still prefer Tate. Tonga has been crap because he's in the worst team in the comp

Maybe so on Tonga but he looks overweight and slow, he just does. Tate was ordinary as dogs breakfast against Neilsen...and you would pick him...what for? This is 2012 not 2002! Chambers/Neilsen for mine.

We could just about put the Storm team out and they'd get the job done. :p

I reckon Vidot would be a good fit for origin, big and strong. He was basically like another forward when Broncs played Dragons.

I wish Mal had poached duffie back in the day

The issue with Vidot is consistency...one week he is great...the next he is rubbish dropping about 4-5 passes.

Nielson/Inglis is a good matching. You could swap their positions around a bit if you wanted. Inglis to wing means he's likely to get more kick returns and more dummy half running which is good, but the flip side is he won't see as much ball in attack. Maybe play Inglis in the centres in attack, then on the wing in defence? Just throwing it out there.

In 2001 Ben Kennedy was dropped from the blues team and he played out the rest of the NRL as arguably the best forward going around. As a selfish knights supporter, I'm hoping Boyd isn't picked and it has a similar impact.

Having said that, QLD have a history of showing loyalty with players, so I expect him to be selected.

Chances are Origin will be just what he needs to start firing up at Newcastle as well...
